I started last Saturday and have lost 3 pounds so far! I am looking to lose 25 pounds by July 2011, but it's going to be a struggle.
I have Crohn's disease, but not the whole weight loss part included, it's more the stomach pains after eating and all the other associated manifestations. I have arthritis in almost all of my joints, and when my Crohn's flares, so do my joints.
It's not the usual ache in my joints, its the "holy crap, did I get run over by a truck" pain, and not being able to get out of bed without assistance. It's no longer "head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, knees and toes", its more like "Knees, shoulders, ankles, wrists, finges, toes and hips, toes and hips, toes and hips". I am hoping that I will soon be able to exercise, and lose more weight, and not just lose weight because the pain is taking over the hunger gurgles.
Does anybody have any low impact exercises, except for swimming since I have been trying to do that already, but to no luck

Hi Ashley, My name is Rhonda and I am a chocoholic. :blushing: LOL Welcome to MFP ( and chocoholics not so anonymous) I have arthritis in my hips and wrists, not as severe as you, but I have found that my elliptical (recommended by my doctor) is awesome. There is no jarring movements for your joints and no pounding like on a treadmill either. Also, I did well with the, I forget what they are called, maybe recumbent bikes?? It is the bike that when you sit on the seat, your legs go out infront of you to the pedals vs down to the pedals. It is much less on the hip joints. I prefer the elliptical though. Yoga might be good for you or even pilates???? Not really sure how Chrones affects people so.....
ANyway, welcome and feel free to add me if you'd like!!0 -
There are chair exercises. I'm not assuming your age but since your fragile maybe you should look on the web for exercise for older folks for on the days your not quite feeling up to it or this could be a start to build you up to get the strength and mobility to do more rigorous exercise. It might just be a stepping stone for you Best Wishes Joy0
