Hi all,
I know hot yoga is so good for you and I plan on going tomorrow... but I was hoping that some of you would have some tips as to go about preparing for the class. I have taken one once before and nearly fainted during the class and felt horrible the rest of the day. The day after I felt like a million bucks though. Any ideas?

Lots and lot of water before you go! And I would only go %75 until you see how you feel after this session!0

Yep, drink lots on the day you go, also a good idea to eat something small 1/2 before class.

thats a good idea... the one day i did it i dont think i drank enough but i also didnt eat before and i didnt eat for hourssss after so i think that definitely played a part... thanks for your input!0

I'm so interesting in doing this but VERY SCARED. I'm about as flexible as a dead tree branch, it's not even funny! I think over time it would be great for me and my core/spine (the root of my non existent flexieness). I'm just afraid everyone in class is going to be incredible and I'll look like a fool/failure and run out crying. So I'd love to hear more!0 -
While drinking PLENTY of water and eating is a good idea, be careful about eating too close to class time. I'd make it no closer than an hour before. I'm currently training to become a yoga teacher and I always warn fellow yogi's to be aware of what your body goes through as it digests food. Spinal twists and forward bends are far more difficult AND much less productive when you've got food in your stomach. Ideally, you want your nutrients being absorbed in your intestinal tract before you start any yoga class, but especially one as intense as Bikram or Hot yoga.
That being said have fun in class and remember "practice your yoga, the rest will come"0 -

Yoga is a truly amazing form not only of exercise but realizing what your body is capable of. TRY A CLASS!!!!! Make sure its for beginners and tell the teacher upfront about any injuries you may have so that they can give you pose modifications throughout the practice. And even if you don't have injuries feel free to ask for modifications wherever you may need them. When I went to my first class I found out that my back and spine were VERY flexible yet my hamstrings wouldn't budge. It took months of dedication and my own private practices before they started to release but it was worth it. If you do see people capable of some amazing feats remind yourself that yoga isn't a competition and look at it as something you yourself WILL be able to do if you focus, increase your awareness and continue to practice yoga.
Just yesterday I was rotating my split in my standard headstand and looked over at someone barely able to do a shoulderstand and was inspired, it wasn't that long ago I was learning it all myself and I found myself pushing all the positive energy I could their way. Yoga is about transcending the physical and ANYONE who makes you feel bad about not being able to do a few poses doesn't belong in a yoga class. There is no room for that kind of energy.
