You can lose weight eating the things you like, but you'll have to eat a lot less of it, and that will make you hungry and discouraged.

You have to make a commitment to eating better. Try to replace your old faves with something similar but healthier. Try to figure out what attracts you about certain food, like do you like salty crunchy things? Sweet creamy things? And then search for things that will satisfy those cravings in a healthier way.

Protein and fiber help fill you up, and you can do this on less calories.

It is time to be a grownup - picky eating is for kids :)

There are some substitutions you can try...like instead of mashed potatoes, try mixing it half and half with cauliflower. you can't even taste it! I heard the book, "Eat, Shrink and be Merry" is good at substitutions. I've seen their show on TV, looks pretty good.

You need to stop thinking of fruits and vegetables as tasteless and boring because they're not! Go to fruit or food stores that specialise in fruit and veg so that you get the best quality and best tasting. Apples, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple are all great to sure your sweet tooth. Bananas fill you up similar to the way most carbs do. Same with carrot (extra yummy raw!) and broccolli (cooked of course) pumpkin, cauliflower (without the cheese sauce!!). If you say that you don't like these things then you havent had them cooked for you properly or you put too many sauces etc on them to try to add flavour when you dont need to :)

i can tell you that i still eat the things i love....i just altered the ingredients in them to be healthier versions of their former selves. i also altered the portions of what i love. i am not dieting....i do not do the "D" word. i have changed my life to a healthier version. if you love potatoes....eat them, just eat less of them and keep them as lean as possible and continue to burn them off like you did today. you will find what fits and works for you. hope it helped a bit.

    Hello there!

I am a firm believer that there is nothing wrong with a potato. It comes from the ground. It's natural. It's better to put that in your body than a lot of other things out there on the market that are made in a factory, full of preservatives and chemicals, and are labeled to be low fat.

Make a list of all the things you like. Do you like apples? What about an apple with some natural almond butter? That's full of fiber and will definitely curb your appetite.

I know you said you don't like vegetables, but do you mean you don't like any? Do you like tomatoes in the form of sauce for your spaghetti? What about carrots or celery? What about oatmeal?

There's probably lots you can do. Try making a list of the things you absolutely hate and will not go near, the foods you wouldn't really want to eat every minute of the day but you could if you had to, and the ones you love. That will give you a good place to start.

you have to learn to eat to live not live to eat. or like people tell me eat like your life depends on it.

now that said start slow you gave up soda for most is you can do that then you can do everything. now what i had to do is mix something i did not like in with something i did like and than i would dislike the thing i liked.

anyway start slow and the more of a difference you see to yourself the more you will be able to do

Most likely you're hungry because your body is not getting proper nutrition. Think of food as fuel, if you put good quality fuel in a body same as a car you'll run longer with out problems. If you put cheap crappy fuel in your car/body you're going to have issues. It really is as simple as that!

Regarding all the food you don't like? How bad do you want to be healthy? How bad do you want to get to a healthy weight? If you really truly want it you'll find a way to incorporate healthier foods into your meals. Chocolate ice cream doesn't do much for fueling the body, NO VEGGIES? Unless you have an allergies to ALL veggies, that's cheating your body not eating them. They are so healthy for your body and mind, have you tried every single veggie out there? Have you tried all method of fixing them?

Potatoes are not bad for you in moderation depending on preparation, chocolate ice cream can be an occasional treat in small portions. But I think incorporating veggies, fruits and some healthy protein info your meals is what will get you healthy and your body back on track.

No one here can help you if you're not willing to help yourself Hon! As an adult it's time to grow up and eat your veggies!:flowerforyou:

To keep from being hungry you'll want to incorporate snacks (meals 5-6 times per day help many on here, often called mini meals) they contain a protein, fat and carb. So you can have a portion of grapes, a few cubes of cheese and that's a mini meal right there. If you don't like one cheese there are a zillion other cheeses out there!

1-2 oz. of chicken cut up in some dark greens in a salad is another quick easy tasty/healthy meal.

So many examples, watch the boards and you'll get a load of ideas Hon:flowerforyou: But to win at this game you've GOT to have an open mind:drinker: Oh, and drink plenty of water too!

Hi there ....well unfortunately if you want to lose you WILL have to change your eating habits. You say you eat lean meats....do you eat lean chicken and lots of fish? You should eat less red meat. You said you liked spaghetti so are you using whole wheat pasta? Try baked sweet potatoes or sweet potatoes fries in the oven instead of white potatoes. Choose whole wheat breads and high fiber foods and cereals. Drink tons of water. Start trying different type of vegetables....you might discover some you like. Your body NEEDS fruits and vegetables! Eat frequently but smaller meals with snacks in between. Try something new everyday. Develop healthier versions of your fav foods. I made a healthy personal pan pizza last night for just over 200 calories. Hope this helps and good luck:)~ Oh yeah trade in that chocolate ice cream for some yogurt.

Love the fact that you don't do the "D" word. Great stuff. Think of it this way. Do you have pets? What do you feed them? Every living thing has a "diet" whether it be an alligator, a parrot etc... What is in their natural "diet"...see how the word "diet" has been morphed into something that it isn't over time. Is twinkies in a birds natural diet? Nope just as it isn't in a humans diet either. You can't do this overnight you must take baby steps. If you love potatos then eat them but eat them right. The complex carbs and starches should be eaten mid day. Also start taking baby steps in all aspects of your nutrition. If you put butter, sour cream and cheese on your potato start by eliminating one. I think over time you will discover that natural unprocessed foods taste great!!! We learned how to like twinkies and crap over our entire lives it's going to take some time to change but you can do it if your desire to be healthy and happy outweighs your desire for twinkies. All the best, I'm cheering for you.

Why don't you eat these things? Is it just personal preference or do you have a diagnosed allergy? I've never heard of anyone that can't eat ALL vegetables and most fruits. You may need to re-train your taste buds to learn to appreciate healthy food.

I used to be a carb junkie, but after I got all the processed food out of my system and regulated my blood sugar, I actually learned to enjoy a salad with hummus, and stir fried vegetables. Maybe try them again, and try preparing them different ways? It's hard to get the nutrients you need without eating some fresh foods. If you continue eating the way you are, you may have some little successes by limiting your calories, but will likely be harming your body in the long term because you aren't eating foods that give you the nutrients you need to keep your body functioning.

It's tough love time: If you really want to change your body, you need to change your mindset.

It all has to start somewhere. Begin by making small changes. Substitute club soda with lemon, or water with lemon instead of the soda. Make "oven fries" by changing out the white potatoes with sweet potatoes. Portion control is key! Measure, Measure, Measure. Pay attention to serving sizes on packaging. For my chocolate cravings, Weight Watchers has a great chocolate fudgsicle for 80 to 100 calories. Yogurt, cheese, eggs, wraps are great for lunches. Fill with guacamole, cukes, lettuce, reduced fat cheeses. Try to buy foods from the outer edges of the grocery store. These areas are typically filled with fresh and not filled with "processed foods". Fruits and veggies are KEY! Good luck and you've got plenty of people for support here and new ideas!

You should be able to eat the healthy foods you like and lose weight. There's nothing wrong with potatoes. I like both sweet and white. Find a recipe that is healthy, maybe roasted with a little olive oil and basil. Then, decide how much of it you want to eat and log it in your food diary.
I think it's hard to be satisfied without vegetables. Whenver, I'm lazy and don't prepare any, I feel unsatisfied and want to overeat. The worst meal I've eaten and ended up still hungry is a McDonald's meal. For some reason, I'm totally starving after eating one of these. Not doing that any more! Try and teach yourself to like some kind of vegetable. I guarantee you'll feel more satisfied. It's more about getting healthy than anything else, right?

If you are used to eating high fat and high sugar foods, you are going to have to re-train your taste buds.

You can disguise veggies in things, like adding grated carrots and celery into spaghetti bolognaise, but the advice already given about finding out what it is your feel like texture-wise (creamy, crunchy etc.) and then finding a substitue is a great way to start.

Good luck, and welcome to the road to your good health!
