going over protein limit

I am new at this diet/exercise thing. I have been here a week. Every day I have been under my calorie, carbohydrate, and fat limit. But I exceed my protein limit by lots. Is this a bad thing? How can I limit protein when just about everything I eat has protein in it?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Diane

I don't think it's a bad thing. I am usually over my protein too. I've lost 12.5 pounds so far and feel great! :bigsmile:0

I am over my protein everyday too, someone posted that the protein levels are set too low on here. I have lost 3lbs since joining mfp (lost 7 before joining) and being over on protein hasn't caused me any issues.0

The protein should be fine. You need that for muscle anyways and the more of that you carry, the more fat your body will burn. I've mostly been keeping an eye on calories, fat, and sodium.0

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I would say work on getting your carb and fats up before you worry about the protein.0

I've been over mine almost daily as well but I know mine is from the lean proteins I am eating like Chicken Breast and Lean Turkey meat. Those are my go to meats for my lunch and dinner.0

I think that being over your protein limit is only a big deal if you have a disease like diabetes.0

don't worry about protein and fiber. always go over on those two things. they are good things to be over on. protein is needed to build and maintain muscles and fiber keeps your insides clean to put it nicely. 1 g of protein per 1 lb of body weight is just fine and i'll bet you never reach that level unless you are using lots of whey protein powder in your diet.0

Yeah, I have been going over on protein too. I spoke with some people at the gym and they said the suggested amount they have for me is too low...I really just make sure my calories, fat and sugar are in check!
You can visit http://www.ehow.com/how_5264929_calculate-much-protein-need.html it may give you an idea...

Im always way over on protein. Dont worry, if u can do low carb & high protein thats a good thing. protein builds muscle & muscle burn fat.0

What everyone else said.
Also a lot of fat loss diets recommend that 50% of your calories be from protein.
Protein is also the hardest to convert to fat, so if you are over on protein and lower on everything else you are doing great.
I wish this site would let you set your percentages to what you want. I am currently trying to do a 40 40 20 diet.0 -
I'm a vegetarian and exceed my daily needs without even trying. American diets are basically based on protein based, much more than other cultures. It's ok to have too much protein but make sure you're getting it from a variety of sources.0
