Headaches and Exercise

To start off, I am a college student and spend a lot of time lugging my bags around. Sometimes the tension builds up and a migraine slams me. So on days when I have a migraine, I get antsy and want to work out.

Does anyone have this issue? What are some low key, effective workouts that you do when a migraine arises?

I get migraines all the freaking time, always have.

For me, on some days a good walk, jog or run will do it. Others, its weights. What I have learned for myself though is that if I pop a couple advil & get moving, I can usually at least lessen the pain.

Wow, when I get a migraine I can't function at all. Lights hurt, movement hurts, everything hurts. I feel like I am going to puke etc... Maybe you just have a stress headache.

    Exercise is good for stress.

Water, water, water :) Stay hydrated before, during and after a workout! I had this same problem when I started working out and eating right. I started to drink more water esp when I was about to work out, and it did the trick :)

Not all migraines do that. For me, they hurt like absolute hell but I can still function. I have a sensitivity to light but can deal if I have to. I would love to sleep but it isn't necessary.

I don't get nauseous with mine but on the con side, I have to take muscle relaxers& a sinus pain med to get ride of them & when I do, I can't function. Traditional migraine meds won't work for me. We tried them all before figuring this out.

I was on some meds about 6 years ago and when I took them I felt like if I couldn't lay down I was going to fall down. They totally knocked me out, so I quit taking them. I have been told they have some good new meds now. I should probably ask my doc about it next time I go.

The only thing that works for me is to catch one at the very beginning and take 2 goodys powders. Works a large part of the time. I know goodys are so bad for you, but I will do anything to avoid that pain. The real bad ones I get tunnel vision.
  • Well, I know they are from my bags. I take the bus downtown to school and walk in general 2 miles a day with these bags. If I had reasonable insurance, I would see my chiropractor. I am the antsy type. I cannot stand laying on the couch all day even if I feel nauseous, dizzy and blinded by lights. I really don't want to be dependent on pain killers. I will try to drink more water for sure. My mom just told me magnesium is a good muscle relaxer. What sort of muscle relaxers do you use?
