What's Wrong?

I lost seven lbs. in two months, but this past month I have only lost 1, maybe 1.5 lb. Why is it taking so long?? I wasn't recording what I ate in those first couple months, but I think it was under 1000 calories a day, and I have since increased it to 1200 or 1300 + exercise (and yes, I am eating those calories too). Any ideas about why I am not losing anything?

if you were starving yourself before (only eating 1000 cals)
your body will need about a month to adjust to eating healthy.
Once your body realizes that it doesn't need t save up all of the nutrients you are now eating, you should go back to losing at an expected pace.

Your body has more calories to work with, and will need to re-adjust itself. Eating less than 1000 calories a day put you into starvation mode, meaning your body slowed everything down to accomidate the lack of food.

Now you're putting adequate food into it, its still in disbelief that it will actually be fed regularly. In fact, you may see a small weight gain before you start seeing the scale moving the direction you want it to. It takes time for your body to really adjust to the fact that you're going to be feeding it properly. Stick with it - real changes take time.

This post will really help explain it - its probably one of the best posts on this entire site:

Maybe your body is adjusting to the changes, which is good. Cause being under 1000 is not healthy. Also, since you are working out you are going to have increase in muscle, again which is good because muscle helps burn fat.

Give it a little more time for things to refocus and then if you have to tweak either calories or exercise.
congrats on the loss though, it's still good.

Sounds like the dreaded middle ground. We all go through it.
I KNOW that eating more does not sound like the answer, but you body get used to working in one way and then levals out. so you did good to start with and now you are not, this tells me that you need to do two things.
    One Work out harder,
two eat more to equal that out.

    Thank you guys!!
I swear I wasn't trying to starve myself early on, I just naturally don't eat much. It's still a struggle to eat 1200+!

1200 is still probably too low for you given the small amount you wish to lose and your age. You really should probably be looking at a 1400 or 1500 a day calorie intake.

Hm, interesting, thank you. I do try to eat a little more than 1200 just because I think my body might need more to get my metabolism back on track, but there are some days when I find it really hard to eat even 1200. :grumble:

    Then drink it.
I am not talkin sodas or gourmet coffees (due to fat and sugar) but if you seriously struggle to EAT all your calories you may want to consider drinking more calories (juices, sugar free hot chocolate, teas, protein drinks, etc)

I used to have the same issue...had it for a LONG time. I was starving myself for my weight and activity level. So, I had to supplement with other things to get calories.
Now, I have to be careful what I eat since my body has adjusted.
