High heart rate.

Please don't slate, I'm very new to all this so just want some advice, so sorry if this sounds dumb.
On the work-out machines at my gym, they tell me my heart rate. It's all extremely high. A warning comes up on the screen saying "HIGH HEART RATE", that it's in the red. I think it's in the 180-area.
Is this bad or will it just help with shedding the pounds? I don't feel I'm over-working myself, I've just never exercised before so my body is totally new to the feeling of being worn out.
Thanks in advance.

I'm curious about this myself as my target heart rate should be in the 180s, yet during my workouts I tend to hit 210 bpm. My doctor didn't seem concerned when I told her since I was not experiencing any heart related symptoms during that time. Just seems high to me. Looking forward to what others say.0

There are lots of different formulas to calculate your maximum heart rate, but a simple one is 220 - age. Since you're only 19, your maximum heart rate is around 200. Working out in the 180s shouldn't be a problem for you.

Brilliant! I was scared I was over-working myself & end up killing myself or something, hah. Especially with the way it was screaming at me about it!
Thankyou so much for clearing it up.0
