I know this may sound lame, but i have never run in my life. When i was in elementary school i badly damaged my left leg from ankle to knee and never went on one single run at school.....Now in my early 20's and getting my leg back in shape I want to learn to run. My goal is to run a 5-10K in October.

So any tips on starting to run?

I`ll second the couch to 5k suggestion !

before you start the program visit your local running store and make sure you have shoes that support your foot correctly - this will depend on your gait

don`t do too much too soon running is rough on your body you need to build up slowly - extra walking or eliptical to build endurance is a good thing

Have fun - run at your pace not anyone elses

Most beginning running sites will suggest alternating intervals of running with walking... Like 2 minutes of running followed by 5 minutes of walking, then repeat. Find an interval time that works for you, if that's 30 seconds of running to 2 minutes of walking, or whatever. Then gradually adjust so that you're running more and walking less as you build up your endurance.

If you have an existing injury, make sure you have good running shoes and any support braces/equipment necessary to help prevent additional strain or injury!
