really?!! that seems quite high? I would understand if it was potato or parsnips.

Thats the only problem on this site, a lot of the home made foods dont actually tell you the exact ingredients and how much of what you put in. for all you know this record may contain butter or oil, maybe a load of salt or pure chicken stock...i thin you should have a look around or maybe log each ingrediant individually and see what the difference is.

I feel your pain, navigating food choices early on is so hard. Things we thought were healthy sometimes are secretly sabotaging us. I had a recipe for a healthy breakfast smoothie. I made it and LOVED it. I drank the whole thing . . .then I read that the smoothie was actually 4 servings and I had consumed nearly 900 calories. UGH!!! Chalk it up to a lesson learned, and don't beat yourself up about it.

I would try creating your own recipe - it can vary hugely depending on % water, if you used potatoes, if you fried the onions etc....

If you made the soup yourself, you should use the site's recipe feature so you can plug in all of the ingredients you used to get a more accurate calorie reading on what you're eating.

    Don't give up! :)

Take your recipe and enter it in the system. You might have a much lower calorie recipe that what someone else put in. For example, I make and love different cream of vegetable soups. But I don't use cream, I use skim milk, so things like that really cut down on calories.

i hate that also!! i think i'm bein good then BAM plug in the foods & it's high calories. :grumble:

i now try 2 plug in my foods at the beginnin of the day b4 i eat so that i know what it's lookin like. & i can plan better (or find an alternative). u can always do the carrot soup as a splurge and do somethin 2 burn at least half the calories. such as if u have an hr lunch go 4 a 30min walk b4 u eat & that way u'll b burnin it off as soon as u put it in ur mouth

I know what you mean, right?!!! I just started paying attention to calories for the first time in my life and am SHOCKED by some of them. I forgot to take some cheese off my sandwich for breakfast this morning and am now upset that i ate an extra 100cal!!! I would have spent those calories on something else~

Good one! Great advice from everyone. Now we all need recipe's like that to get us going. I am sure the other one had some sort of heavy cream in it to bump those calories so high!
  • My husbands homemade soup was the only thing that saved me yesterday - I was on track to go waaaaay over, with only 100 cals left for dinner! But I only ended up about 150 over because his soup is only 65 cals / cup. Yay!

2 chicken thighs, frozen with skin & bone
    6 medium carrots
    1 cup frozen corn
    1 cup frozen peas
    1 cup brown rice
    1 cup sliced mushrooms
various spices to taste, oregano or basil work really well

Throw it all plus enough water to fill into a 5 quart crock pot for 6-8 hours, debone the chicken & throw the skins away, then salt & pepper your bowl to taste. Delish!

    Oil - Olive, 1 tablespoon
    Carrots - Raw, 7 medium
    Onions - Raw, 1 medium (2-1/2" dia)
Knorr - Vegetable Stock Cube, 2 cube
    Add Ingredient
    Total: 404
    Per Serving: 81
sweat the carrots and onion in olive oil for about 5 mins, add salt, pepper and a shake of dried corriander, and sweat for another 5 mins,, add the veg stock cubes and add boiling water and simmer for about 20 mins, liquidise when done!
