I have been eating very healthy and staying within my calorie intake for about 2 weeks now. I work out about 4-5 days a week, I got on the scale today and gained 3 pounds. I'm frustrated. I can see a difference in my waist and i'm starting to tone up a little more but the scale is going in the opposite direction. I have my diary set to public view. if there's any tips or advice anyone could give me, I'd appreciate it! (i'm up for constructive criticsm)

I honestly thought at first I was gaining muscle from all the cardio i've been doing but I don't understand why I've gained.

first off, muscle weighs more than fat so that could be part of the problem. Also, try staying away from the sodium and try no eating your (exercise) calories back. you could have hit a plateau. you could try a different exercise too. eat more protein, more fiber.

You're going waaaaaaay over on sodium most days. You tend to hold on to excess water when you do that.Extra water is extra weight. Try to adjust your sodium and see if that helps.

I notice you are always over in your sodium intake. It could be water weight! Plus, if you are building muscle, I have always been told muscle weighs more than fat. The combination of the two could be the reason you are seeing a rise on the scales!

I looked over the past week, and I would say A) Your sodium is up up up, causes water retention, for a fix to bump it down, drink straight lemon juice. To keep it down, stay away from packed meats, you seem to eat several.. B) Get fiber. Do less bread and more fruit. I'd suggest getting a good 25g/day. Then once that is going, drink all of your water. C) In general, if possible, shoot for whole foods, and less chips, dips, cookies, and so on. Go for veggies and fruits and yogurt. Things that fill your daily needs.
    Hope that helps a bit..

I totally understand how you feel... I have been exercising for 10 weeks now... Lost 7 pound as of last friday and then I weighed this morning and I gained 2 pounds... I wanted to cry!!!!!!!! I have been counting calories,, doing cardio for 45 minutes 6 days a week and strength training at least 5 days a week... I also run the stadium stairs on saturdays!!! I thought I would about die when I saw I had gained 2 pounds... I have also just started doing my 45mins of cardio at 5:30 in the morning... I thought maybe that would jump start my weight loss... I have also had my blood work done and had my thyroid check and it was fine... I really see why people give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question for you, why do you have your sodium level set at 1000 but constantly go over by double?

You are really building muscle. Give it a little more time to see the scales go down. How about inches? Have you measured your self.
  • thanks everyone! i know the sodium really racks up, i was trying to monitor my sugar intake as well.

I'll try to be a little more cautious of this in the future! I appreciate everyone's feedback!
