Does it count if you break up the exersize throughout the da

I'm a substitute teacher. Today I'm subbing for a PE teacher and for 10 minutes at the start of every class they have to run laps around the track. Since I've been busy and haven't had time to get to the Y for my official workouts this week, I thought I would take advantage of this opportunity and run the track with with the kids. So for 10 minutes every hour for about 5 hours today I'm getting my heart rate up. Now I've heard that it's really only effective if you keep your heart rate up for 30-45 minutes, but if I do it several times in the day can I still count it? I mean I'm still burning calories right? (The rest of the class I'm teaching games and have to referee so I'm pretty much standing or walking but not enough to raise my heart rate.) What are your thoughts?

count it! Cardio is cardio, IMO. Not ideal, no, but still gettin it in there. Should ask to sub for PE every day! LOL
