To eat or not to eat?

I have seen this topic on here several times, but with no definitive answer, just lots of opinions. So I want some scientifically backed reasons. Is it recommended that you eat breakfast before exercising in the morning or to wait until after you are done? I only exercise in the mornings on the weekends or when I don't work. During the week I exercise as soon as I get home from work. On the weekends I have been eating, waiting 45min-1hr, then working out. This is pretty time consuming. If it is healthy to workout first I may change things up.
