I'm continuing to be inspired by the Tour de France!

One of the American riders, Hincapie, is in 5th or 6th place right now. He's considered to be one of the "bigger" riders, since he weighs 180 (GASP!--LOL).

Did you know those guys cruise at 26-28 mph!!!! That's the cruising speed!

That's just over twice as fast as I can go maintain right now. But actually, I told my hubby it made me feel kind of good to think I can maintain a speed almost half of what a professional can do and I can do it on a heavy hybrid bike while being 97 pounds overweight!

Can't wait to see the mountain stages coming up. I hear they hit 55 mph and up on the downside of the mountains! e021.gif

Yeah it's pretty scary going that speed under you're own power. I was an inline skating instructor and had some killer blades back when I was around 22 or so. I decided it would be a good idea to skate down the road from mt washington (not the actual mountain, the road leading up to it) and I was neck and neck with a guy driving and (very cautiously) asked him how fast and he said 40. I gulped, cuz there was really no way to slow up, I had to crouch into a skiers tuck and hope for the best. I made it, not one fall, but I'll never do that again. Doing anything that fast without powered brakes is just insane.

LOL---I took my bike with me back in May when I had to go to Central VA for business. There were some small mountains--looked huge to this flatlander!--I about killed myself going up one of them. One the way down, my bike computer read 34mph! I was scared to death!!!

I could hardly see because my eyes were watering and hurting, and all I could think of was "This is nuts!" but I was afraid to hit the brakes.

I much prefer the safe flat and easy roads.
