I love this site and I definitely think it can help me. My problem is I start out the day strong and then stop recording after lunch. I start my old eating habits and think what is the point. Anyone else had this challenge

Nope, when I make a comittment I stick to it. LOL
Of course, we all do. It would be called hard work if it was easy.
You can do it. We know you can.
Keep MFP open on your computer so you can easily log your food.

Even better than that, plan your food the night before and log it all from home.
  • I love this site. I totally understand. Old habits are hard to break. It's funny because I know that you are supposed to track your food as you eat it but I do it a little different. Not really because I want to do it this way, but because I have to. I've found that my method has helped me a lot.

I'm a school teacher who works at a school in the sticks so I can't track my food during the day because of cell phone reception. I'm not going to be wasting my student's time and get on MFP during the day, so I wait until the evening to track all my food. It gives me that extra push throughout the day to do good because I'm not exactly sure how many calories I have had. I really do ask myself, "is that really worth eating?" I feel more "accountable" at the end of the day.

Not sure if this helps anyone else but me, but thought I would share. Good luck with your weight loss!

    Hi Nani,

I've struggled with that too... I have found two ways to keep on track:

    1. plan all of meals ahead and enter them all in the morning... that way I know what my day's calorie intake will be and if I have room to add anything else. If I know I will be going out for lunch at work (I usually know where I will be going) I view the menu online and choose what I will order ahead of time. Since I have already entered it, I feel more comitted to the plan and it is easier to stick with. If I do veer off plan, I log on at night and make any needed changes.

    2. I recently got a smart phone and downloaded the MFP app. This way I can access my food diary during the day and stay on track if I haven't been as good as I should have been and did not do my preplanning.
  • Hi,

Ive recently started using this website too and think its very helpful. I have exactly the same problem as you. Upto the afternoon I usually go OK then on the evening I want to eat whatever I can.

The things I have been trying to do instead is phoning my sister to keep my mind off food - she always tries to keep me motivated, or getting an early night.

Its really difficult losing weight, I wish it was easier :-(

Hi Nani, i struggle with my eating habits at times too, but having to log it in and seeing what damage ive done...it makes me aware and accountable. even if i cant get to a computer to log it in right away i'll write it down or put it in my phone till later
i've even tried planning ahead which helps also, and rarely eat all of what ive put in

You can do it! Add friends for support, try to plan out your meals the day before and always have a healthy, or low-cal, snack on hand just in case your plan didn't go accordingly. I'm a school teacher also, and I keep extra cans of Progresso Light soup and Fiber One bars in my classroom as backup! That way I can't say oh, I forgot my lunch let me go eat the fries from the cafeteria! lol! I also have foods that I just can't buy, like OREOS! I haven't bought a package in two years! Some people may say, well you should have more will power, well I say yeah, you're right, but I know that's a trigger food and I stay away from them. I just feel like I can be more successful when I plan my meals out, and now that I've added more friends, the support and encouragement helps! Good luck on your journey to health and fitness! Feel free to add me if you'd like!

Hello Tiffvea! Thanks for the reply and then encouragment and suggestions. Great ideas for lunch - thank you. I work at a college and have access to microwave, etc. so I can totally do that. You must feel very encouraged that you have already lost weight - I'm going to be weighing myself Saturday and hope to see at least one pound gone. I like the my fitness pal 17 lb. to go you have at the bottom. Kind of holds you accountable to others doesn't it? Another great idea. I had another message from someone who listed their three weight loss goal increments.
I need to ask a dumb question: How do I "add" you? I don't do Facebook so I really don't know how to add someone. Thanks for offering! Nani
