Introduction, and Calorie Burn Question

Hello, I am Doug. Just discovered this site about a month ago, and have been using it, along with exercise, to moderate my food intake and ultimately lose weight. As you can see by my picture, I used to play hockey, but haven't in a couple years.

Anyway, my question is: One of my jobs is in retail sales. While it is not intense cardio exercise, I am on my feet a large portion of an 8-hour shift and do certainly walk around the store. I've looked up a rough estimate of calories burned in this line of work, online, but haven't seen anything conclusive. I do own a pedometer, and have worn it at work, and see that it indicates at the end of the day that I burn about 500 calories. I don't know; that seems a little high. Anyone have a rough idea about approximate calories burned in retail, or do you think the pedometer is about right?

Actually seems a little low. My sportline says I burn about 200 cals from just an hr of walking around say walmart. What brand do you currently own? Also do not go by what mfp says for cals burned they're always off. Good luck!
