Do kettle bells work?

I bought a Kettle Bell today. I'm planning to do squats and hopefully lose weight off my legs.

Has anyone had success with Kettle Bells? I've seen the contestants on Biggest Loser using them.

Any tips?

Yes they work! Just make sure you follow proper form so you don't injure yourself. You'll feel the effects pretty quickly and see the results soon after. I took a kettle bell classes and was amazed at the results. Unfortunately my schedule changed I could no longer make the classes. . as a matter of fact I think I may buy myself a set in a few weeks ;-).

I think they really do work. I didn't have kettle bells but I had 20 lb. dumbells and started doing the squats with those. I notice my fat starting to melt off and my body toning up alot quicker that way. I would squat and as I stood I would raise the dumbell straight out from the floor to chest height like they do on the show Heavy. I would do it 15 times with each arm.

They work if you use them! They are basically resistance, just like other weights, but with easy to hold handles.

Get Jillian Michael's "SHRED IT WITH WEIGHTS."

She uses a kettlebell (I just use a regular dumbell) but it's a great workout video, especially if you're new to kettlebells!!!

I love the kettlebell - if you look for a DVD workout, 'shred it with weights' with Jillian Michael's is a good one (she's not terribly annoying in it - lol)

I agree with the previous poster - if you do 'swing' moves especially, watch your form - I always have to do it when the kids are asleep, too - I'm nervous one will come running up and get knocked out :)

    Lol.. Jillian scares me!!

I don't think I could get one of her work out DVDs.. she's too intense. I will definately try to make a good start with the kettle bell tomorrow thought.

Some really posstive feedback! Thanks everyone :)

I think I'll have to do it far away from the TV. Don't want the kettle bell to go flying straight towards it!!!

It's the swing move I'm most interested in. I've foudn that i can do squats easily, and it's less pressure on my knees.

Don't fall into the trap of fast results. Look at this as a journey not a race or you are doomed to fail.

MakingAChoice - Really wish there was a quick fix and I could do an hour of kettle bells and wake up the next day weighing my ideal weight.

I know it takes time.. aparantly 4 times aslong as it took to put the weight on in the first place. Lol

bayles1 - Thanks... going to try hard and hopefully get good results.

totalimageguy - Thanks! I'll check the site out :)

For women just starting out I highly recommend this starter kit.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the Jillian Michaels kettlebell DVD and I love Jillian. I'd just go with the people who brought the kettlebells over to the states.

    Hope this helps,
    Stu

    No problem
  • Does anyone know anything about the Bob Harper kettlebells/DVD's? I also saw them on Biggest Loser and I was looking at them online today to order one. I looked on Amazon at all of the stuff Jillian had, and then I saw Bob has two DVDs with kettlebell workouts, and he makes these "contoured" kettleballs with a flatter shape?
I'm kind of a Bob girl, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew which one was better and if the shape matters that much??
