  • Food looks great. I saw high sodium for one day, but the rest looked good. :) But, I don't see you logging any water. Aren't you thirsty? ;P

LOL - yeah I havn't logged my water. I understand the value of water in curbing hunger and health in general, but not sure about the other benefits. I am going to start another topic here to gather input on that subject. I have recently cut out soft drinks alltogether - only beverages now is one cup or two of coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day.

hi nothing looks too out of sorts to me. just some suggestions though. sara lee has wheat 45 calorie bread that taste's pretty good. sandwich thins come in whole grain and wheat are pretty good. 100 calories for the whole roll, this way you are getting some added fiber that the white bread isn't offering. yukon gold potatoes are good. they are a less starchy potatoe than the red ones. how's your cholesterol? egg beaters are good. they come in regular and south western style. there are also egg whites that come in a box in the same area, are you exercising? even a short 20 minute walk at a slow pace will help.

Thank you! Actually, I only eat bread and eggs about once a week (on the weekends usually). But we do tend to have mashed potatoes as a staple and let my wife know about the gold potatoes.

Yes, I work out usually once a day - often short workouts but I use a HRM and subtract my BMR calories. I have started some step arobics, been walking, do some resistance tubes, recumbent bike, tread mill - and a LOT of Wii fit and EA Active Sports.
  • Sweet potatoes are a good sub in for white potatoes! Maybe some more grains? We have nasty, cold mornings here and I've really been enjoying oatmeal with fruit - I'm using steel cut oats but if mornings are rushed quaker quick oats are good! I like to stir in a 1/4 cup of frozen berries and go.

    What are the Jonna bars?

We cut pretty much all processed foods out of our grocery bill. To replace the quaker oatmeal bars, my wife Jonna makes yummy homemade oatmeal bars.

    6 1/4 cups oatmeal
    1 cup flour
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla
    1 cup butter
    2/3 cup honey
    1/2 cup brown sugar

Press into large cookie sheet and bake 325 for 20-25 minutes

Drizzle with peanut butter / honey mixture

    2 tbsp peanut butter
    2 tbsp honey

Makes 48 bars at 116 calories each

Oh those sound yummy! The only thing I would say, and please please please don't take this as a condemnation of your wife's cooking, because those really do sound heavenly, is that you might want to have them as more of a treat and less of a daily thing, only because the sugar is very high in them. They're pretty much cookies. Awesome, delicious sounding cookies. Maybe eating them for breakfast isn't the best idea.

The main things I would suggest would be 1) switch to whole wheat bread - more vitamins and minerals and fiber! 2) Add fiber to your diary. I don't know where MFP gets their values, but men should consume 38 g of fiber a day. Eating more fiber or slowly working up to 38 g can help you feel more full = help with weight loss
