*girls* Period and weight loss question

Hello ladies. I am feeling discouraged. This past week I stayed within my calories and walked 3.5 miles 4x. I didn't walk Tuesday and wednesday because I had bad cramps.
I started my period on a tuesday and today (saturday) I weighed in, I did a lose a pound (which is still good) but I was expecting more especially since I did do the workouts (when normally I don't do anything at all) and stayed with my calorie range (which I have never done before on my period)
Could I have still been bloated or had period gain on the 5th day? What is your experience with this. Anything that can help me stay motivated would really help because I am feeling really bummed right now. Thanks!

It seems no matter what I do, I gain 2 lbs before I start my period, and that stays until about a day after I end. Then I lose it all and get back to normal. This didn't use to happen when I was on birth control pills.0

I started and finished my period this week so I will find out monday morning when i do my weight in. A friend did warn me not to get disappointed at weight in during or right before/after period because that friend usually gains or stays at the same weight. I'm trying to go into monday morning expecting that I didn't lose any pounds to prevent disappointment.0

Same thing for me...I did not lose like I thought I would this week...I am in the middle of mine now--so Monday is weigh in day. It will be very interesting to see. I bet yours comes off too!! Hang in there...that darn bloating and water weight is for the birds!!!0

It is normal to retain water and bloating for up to 8 days, beginning 2 days prior to, during, ad 2 days after your period. Once those 8 days have passed you will not only see the water retention weight disappear, but your exercise efforts will pay off as well.0

dring my period i gain 3-5 pounds by the fourth or fifth day it drops.
just watch your cals you should be fine0 -
Your body retains what it is craving, so drink more water during your period!0

Man! That sucks! Am I the only one who doesn't gain?0

before I started working out and counting calories, I would gain 5 pounds just before TOM, and drop it over the next 5-6 days.
Last week I lost 2 pounds...BUT, I have had TOM for 4 days (light) and then today, it finally kicked in heavy! I hope I don't have 5 or 6 more days to deal with it, I might get pretty hacked off! Losing weight can do weird things to TOM, I would just wait and reweigh later, or expect to see a big drop the next week.0 -
Totally normal - in fact if you lost a pound while having your period I'd say you're going to do GREAT next week. Usually I stay the same or gain a pound the week of my period and the week after I lose close to 2 weeks worth of weight.
Sucks being a girl doesn't it! :laugh:0 -

I was going to post the same question!!! This is my 1st period since having my last baby (10 months ago)... and my 1st period while doing weekly weight-ins, so I wasn't sure! I'll know monday what the verdict is for me!0

Ya know it honestly depends on each person! Some gain. Some dont. I loose it seems right before and gain during. I did hear something somewhere that said the best time to eat right and exercise was during your period.....anyone heard the same??
Good luck though!! Definitely frustrating......0 -
Wow people respond so quickly How nice I just got discouraged considering I was on my 5th day already. I had figured that I would have lost all of the water weigh by today and today will be my last day. I really hope I lose 2-3 pounds next week *fingers crossed****
Thanks ladies for the encouragement :flowerforyou:0 -
I always have a lot of water weight gain around and during my period. So there is definately a possibility that you'll lose more over the next few days. Don't let it get you down! You're doing a great job!! Good luck and keep up the good work!!:happy:0
