Sadly withdrawing from a 5K....and in need of support...

I've been sick, sick, sick for three week. Five weeks ago, I signed up for my first 5 K, and I started using the C25K program in November (in addition to walking a ton, Zumba and yoga.) Between the sinus infection, stomach flu, and the current upper respiratory infection, I've had to seriously curtail my exercise. Lately "coughing, vigorous" and some yoga is about all I'm up for. Talking on the phone winds me.

So, though there are still 3 weeks until the race, I've withdrawn. And I feel like a bit of a failure, even though, realistically, there's no way I'd be able to run that distance (walk, no problem....if I kick this damned bug...)

I'm trying to see this as a positive: one more way I'm taking care of myself on this journey. But I'm still bummed.

Well of course it is disappointing. You were trucking along and then through no fault of your own, you were sidelined. It happens!

But take pride in doing the smart thing. You are taking care of this wretched infection so you can recover and come back stronger. it would be foolish to try to push through and make yourself sick for months.

You are respecting your body, and for many of us, that is a FIRST!

If you want to and feel up to it, you could volunteer at this race. Work a water station or a sign up table. You'd still be involved, but in a healthy way for you at this point in time.

Sad yes but smart for sure Just get on line and look for another 5 K in your area and start training for the next one when you are feeling better. Good luck one your first 5 K

Thank you for being kinder to me than I was being to myself.
