Almost glad I got as large as I did

So, I was thinking yesterday on my drive home from the in-laws that I'm actually glad that I gained as much weight as I had. Why is that, you ask? Because I am now finally taking care of me and I'm not doing it for my husband, my family or my friends. I'm doing this for me. Now, I'm a priority. I have to make time to take care of me because I'm actually worth it. And I think that was why I gained all the weight. I took comfort from external sources instead of relying more on my inner strength. I always thought I'd hit a breaking point, like the 200 mark, and then I'd get my butt in gear. That didn't happen. It took a friend making me a part of her New Year's resolutions; that we would be weight loss buddies. I lost almost ten pounds and then found MFP and now the weight loss seems achievable and still, I'm doing it for me and I feel good about me. It's helping my personal life, as well as my professional life because I'm more confident.

Is anyone else the same way? I wish I could have come to the same realization without the weight gain but I honestly don't think I could have.

Good for you for making it about YOU! It's true that sometimes it takes something bad for us to realize what we need to do, and if this is what made you realize that it was time for you to take time for yourself, and take care of yourself.. great!

And, you're here, you're doing awesome...and it's ALL FOR YOU!!
    Great job!
