I mowed the lawn yesterday and I used a riding mower for 2 hours. Is it really possible to burn 342 calories just by riding a lawn mower? Looking at the exercise database, I was amazed at how many calories are burned by doing some activities that I never even thought mattered in my "daily exercise regime" like cleaning the house, gardening, etc. Maybe, I'll take up mowing lawns for people:laugh:

I never put in my normal daily CRAP (cleaning house, laundry, errands etc)... are you supposed to?

I always just put in actual work outs...........

I don't count normal house stuff. Mowing lawn might be different--if I pushed mowed it {like I really mow the lawn--that's why there's hubbys!} If you're that active during the day around the house, you might just want to increase your activity level in your "goals" setting.

I don't know for sure but all of that is included in the database under exercise. You should check it out, I can go fishing sitting in a boat and burn 171 cal.

Yep, I mow the lawn as well every week, I do combo, riding mower for about 2-3 hours and push mower for 1 hour, I can burn up to 900 calories doing that, all in one day. Its great, and when I'm done I'm pooped. I almost feel as if I get a break from exercise on mow day, except when pushing the rider, it doesn't seem like i'm working that hard. I started mowing this year because my hubby had surgery in April and wasn't able to do it, then after finding out how much calories I can burn, its a weekly thing.

Most of the time I don't add cleaning calories, because I have 5 kids and usually get interrupted, so hard to keep track of the time, but I definitely add gardening time. We have a mid sized garden and its a lot of work keeping those weeds out of there.

    Happy summer!

I have to do the trimming today. Now that will be a workout! I don't put in normal house chores either:happy:

Scrubbing the house, cars, organizing rooms, laundry, yard work, what's the difference? A stay at home mom stereotype. You stay at home, you do nothing enough to count as working out? If the pizza delivery job gets credit for burning calories while sitting in the car and handing a pizza to someone...derrrr....I'm working QUITE a bit harder than him, so I need to account for the burned calories to keep out of starvation mode. I tend to not eat enough calories, so this helps boost me into the next level. I'd love to see the mom of 4 put on a HRM and see what the BMR is for the day! YOU GO GIRL!

I use my HRM when I mow or do a full task of housework, chores, or mowing. I subtract for BMR, and then log them.

If I have to choose between sitting on the couch burning 0 or cleaning the house and getting "credit" for 0, I'd rather sit on the couch.
