is it for real? or just what i am dreaming for?
i work out at a gym a lot. 5+ days a week! but mostly just cardio.and my body has not been changing.
i decided to switch it up a bit last week and started pushing myself as hard as i could on weights. i've only done the 3 times now (m, w, f) , but this morning i feel a lot slimmer, leaner. i spite of my not optimal diet this past weekend.
am i just dreaming or could this be real?

weight training is great for toning up and burning fat. Your def not dreaming. Keep up the good work0

Not only do I see more improvement when I weight train, I like it better than cardio. I have been weight training, and now I am adding in cardio just to build endurance.0

It could definitely be real. It's easy to be surprised by the good changes that strength and resistance training can cause in our bodies.
Also, even if you WERE dreaming, (which you probably aren't), it's making you FEEL better about yourself, and that a lone is reason to keep it up; even if noticeable changes didn't happen within a few days, they definitely will within a few weeks.0 -
My experience is that after I do weight at the gym I feel more toned for a day or two - but you have to do it for a while to keep the tone for any length of time...
That said - building muscle will help you to burn more fat in everything you do - so you're onto a winner!0 -
Building muscle is better for all around fat burning. More muscle mass means a higher metabolism which mean more fat burning during rest, normal activity and even sleep.
We cannot "tone" muscles; we cannot make them harder. They can get 1) bigger and/or stronger or 2) smaller and/or weaker.
Diet and cardio exercise cause muscle mass loss along with fat loss. That's why our muscles get smaller (and we lose the fat that is marbled through the muscle). We all have 6-pack abs. We just need to get rid of that layer of fat covering them. So weight training is very, very important for fat loss.
And remember that heavy weights will not bulk you up. Women don't have enough testosterone for that to happen. It's hard enough for men to bulk up.
Check out the link in my signature "An Email Response that Might Help Some...". She explains it very nicely.0 -

It could be a training phenomenon known as "the pump" especially if you have been engaged in weights work with higher reps.
Your muscle mass has not increased per se but the appearance certainly has. Essentially your muscle fill up with blood faster than blood can leave the area, making muscles appear fuller and bigger. You will notice that your muscles feel tighter and swollen.
It's a great psychological boost for many exercisers.0 -
