I've been walking/running on the treadmill for 2 1/2 months and have cutting and tracking my calories for a couple weeks and have not lost an ounce. I went to this from nothing. I am so discouraged right now and cannot believe I haven't lost even one pound with all that I've been doing. I have taken measurements once, a couple weeks ago, but have not since - wasn't sure how long to wait between measurements, should have taken them at the beginning. I didn't excercise today, can't see the reason or motivation to right now. Can anyone offer any similar experiences/motivation that will keep my trying?

Are you eating your exersise calories ? Are you drinking enough water? getting enough sleep?

This is just a part of it! please read the link above

Generally someone with a BMI over 32 can do a 1000 calorie a day (2 lbs a week) deficit
With a BMI of 30 to 32 a deficit of 750 calories is generally correct (about 1.5 lbs a week)
With a BMI of 28 to 30 a deficit of 500 calories is about right (about 1 lb a week)
With a BMI of 26 to 28 a deficit of about 300 calories is perfect (about 1/2 lb a week)
and below 26... well this is where we get fuzzy. See now you're no longer talking about being overweight, so while it's still ok to have a small deficit, you really should shift your focus more towards muscle tone, and reducing fat. This means is EXTRA important to eat your exercise calories as your body needs to KNOW it's ok to burn fat stores, and the only way it will know is if you keep giving it the calories it needs to not enter the famine response (starvation mode)

    Good luck on your journey

I have been having the same problems as you. I went from drinking soda and juices all day long to drinking all water. I would have thought that would of helped some. I am trying now to eat more calories and adding protein. I don't eat a lot of protein so I started adding a protein shake. Its only been day 3 for me adding more protein and more calories, so I can't say if that have helped or not.

Keep going. I had ten days without weightloss. I lost 3 inches from my waist in two weeks. Measure again but dont be disheartened. I think a big change puts the body in shock and it needs to time to adjust.

You are doing really well and you must feel better for doing the exercise.

You can do this - its a lifestyle change not a diet.

That can be very discouraging! Try cutting another 50-100 calories per day - unless you're under your calorie goal. You don't want to be starving yourself.... if you go into a starvation mode, then your body will hold on to every calorie you eat and store it as fat because it's worried about the possibility of not having enough food reserves!

Most important - switch up your exercise routine. The body is really good at minimizing the energy required to do anything – a throwback of evolution – so if you’ve been walking on the treadmill every day, then try doing the elliptical for a day - or low weight high repetition weights – or pilates/yoga – or Zumba – or kickboxing – or rowing. The most important thing is to switch it up often and keep your body guessing. Make your body do something that it’s not used to! Good luck!

I had a similar thing happen to me. When I turned a certain age a couple of years ago, I gained 10 pounds out of the blue. I still have not really lost it, but have kept on exercising since I know the weight gain would have kept on going without the exercise. Also, I see benefits aside from the weight control that come from the exercise, like being able to run up and down stairs in my home without getting out of breath, or making it through the grocery store without my back hurting. Not to mention, the basic heart and other health issues that benefit from the exercise.
Don't give up. The measurements will tell the real story over time. I know that in my time exercising I have gained a lot of muscle, which weighs more than the fat did. My clothes feel much better when I am exercising.
    It is all worth it!

I would not be discouraged just yet, without having taken baseline measurements you have no way of knowing if you have lost inches. Remember that MUSCLE weighs more than fat, so if you started walking and running out of the blue, then you have been building muscle in your legs that was not there before!

As far as the food part goes, I do not know how you are eating, but I do know that if you have many small meals versus one or two big ones, that each have the same number of calories, you will lose weight easier and faster with the small meals. When you go a long time between meals, your body goes into starvation mode and thwarts your diet goals. I have had much better luck once I switched to eating six small meals a day rather than three bigger meals. And when you are eating every 2-3 hours, you really never feel hungry! Good Luck, and don't quit now!!!

Hey! I think the thing that you need to think about is the same thing that I have to do. Instead of thinking about "Losing Weight" or "Getting Skinny" you need to focus on "Being Healthy" I get so caught up in the numbers (weight and inches) that I forget that ANY healthy change is a GOOD change!

You're exercising and you're eating well! That's WONDERFUL! And if a by-product of that is losing weight, then that's great, too. But I would encourage you to stay motivated to get, be and stay HEALTHY and not get, be, and stay SKINNY! That way, during those hard weeks where it doesn't seem like anything is changing, you can still feel great knowing that you are making a healthy lifestyle change. One that will lengthen your life, make you feel better and, in the long run, get you down to the size you want to be!!

Now.... I just have to remember this for myself, too!!! :) GOOD LUCK!
