maximum heart rate is calculated as
women: 220 - Age
Men: 226 - Age
That's the rate it should stay below0 -
The American Heart Association has some information about heart rate and exercise here:

When your heart rate gets too high, mine does sometimes, you will probably feel it. My head pulses because off the blood pumping so fast. I just take a 2 min break and drink some water and wait till my HR goes back down to 130. Thats what I would suggest you do.
**I am not a doctor, yet =], and this is just my personal opinion from my experiences**
If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure or any of those high risk things, you should talk to your doctor about it and definitely invest in an accurate heart rate monitor (ones with chest straps are more accurate)0
