Hey guys, I'm Melanie.
I'm sixteen and I've struggled with my weight for a long time. It wasn't until recently I felt uncomfortable with being around 190 pounds. All of my friends are either skinny/thin, athletic or just have idea bodies, and I just want to fit in with them and not be known as the 'fat' friend. My ideal weight is 140 pounds and I know I have a hell of a long struggle to undergo. If you have any inspirational stories, tips, or anything you'd like to share, feel more than welcome to contact me (:

I wish you all success with your goals and dreams!
-Melanie

    Hi Melanie:

Welcome and I hope you find the support you need here!

As some one who was an overweight teen, and has seen plenty of people hit highs and lows on this journey- I want to encourage you to always err on the side of caution and moderation. Weight loss can really mess with your self perception and can cause a lot of hang ups (obsession with getting skinnier or obsessively counting carbs) and it's really, really easy to get carried away.

That being said- congrats on taking a great first step to self awareness and healthier living! Feel free to friend me or check out my food diary to get an idea of stuff you can eat without going crazy over every bite.

    Best of luck!
    ~Gonks

  • I somewhat know the feeling :] I'm 18, have a height of 5'2, and weigh around 154 lbs. While I'm not tremendously overweight, I'm used to being much smaller (think 118). While I don't want to be smaller than 125 or so, 154 isn't kosher with me anymore. Any plans on what your workout schedule will be?

I'm doing the Kettleworx 6 week challenge (currently in week 3) and try to burn an extra 200 calories walking on the treadmill on workout days and sunday.

I've also had to completely change my diet up as I typically don't consume more than 500-600 calories daily which is HORRIBLE when you're trying to lose weight, so I try to reach 1000-1200 using healthy foods. Definitely not easy making a complete lifestyle change, but we can do it!

edit: I forgot to put that consuming 500-600 calories at anytime is terrible for your body because you deprive your body from valuable nutrients pertinent to having a healthy body. its also important to know that restricting calories isn't always beneficial because you need to think about the nutritional value of the food, rather than the calories. a 150 cal serving of a cupcake isn't the same as a 150 cal serving of fruit.

Sweetie- you are NOT big enough to be losing 21 lbs. Take a look in the mirror hun, you are skinny. If you can't see it, you should be talking to some one because you have some unhealthy ideas of what "skinny" is.

    Hi Melanie!

I know exactly what you're going through. I was always "the fat friend" in the group. At 14, I was 200 pounds and upset with the fact that all my friends were size 0's or 2's. I mean, I couldn't even go shopping with them, because the mall didn't sell up to my size! (a mall that only sells up to size 14 is ridiculous anyways and worthy of being boycotted, but I still hated it). Finally I kicked my butt into high gear and decided that no matter what, I was losing the weight. Now, at 18, I'm 25 pounds lighter. I still don't always feel great about myself (we all have bad days) but trust me, you'll feel so proud of yourself for every pound you lose. I have every confidence that it's within your grasp to reach your goal, and I wish you the best of luck. If you'd like to be friends, feel free to add me! It would be nice to know another teen on here ;).

Please see my former post regarding the age restrictions. Also why does your profile say you are 34 years old?

Ohp. I forgot to change that. I'm just trying to get really toned right now. I set goals a whileeeee ago when I was really unhealthy, and that picture was from my low weight. I'm like 11 pounds above that now.
