Exercising While Injured?

I received a neck and back sprain injury in a bus crash yesterday, just after I had really gotten going with my weight loss and exercise. Obviously, I don't want to succumb to a setback right now, so does anyone have any suggestions on anything I can do to keep my activity levels up without exacerbating the injury? Walking's not too easy right now, much less jogging, and I am stiff and sore all over!

i would NOT do anything with out checking with a Docotor, just not worth the risk of making it worse. hope you get better soon

    Good luck on your journey!

When I injured my back, I just asked my physio what I could do, and for me, it involved a whole load of things to do with core strength, but surprisingly was banned from things I thought would be ok, like swimming breast stroke.

So really, I think you should ask a physio or similar what you can and can't do because you really don't want to make things worse!

Best of luck and hope you get better and running soon!

Definitely!!! check with a doctor first...make sure you are icing your injury for atleast the first 3-5 days to keep out any added inflamation. As a massage therapist I see this a lot. Especially with this type of injury.

An option I can think of off hand is if you can go somewhere and use a stationary bike that you can sit on. That way you are just using your legs to do the work. Just an idea.

Be careful with that and get some massage done on just your neck and upper back within 2 weeks of the injury..

Thanks for the tips, guys. It's been so long since I've exercised with any regularity, you tend to forget what you can and can't do when certain bits are niggling!

I've been told to keep moving by the A&E doc who I saw last night, but the last thing I want to do is overdo it.

Now to find a bag of frozen peas... ;)
