Circuit training

I am currently a member of Planet Fitness Gym, and they have a 30 min circuit training area where there are 20 different stations- 10 where you are doing step ups and 10 where you are doing various strength machines for 1 min each and have a 30 second break in between each.
Ive been using the curves circuit training as how I log it, but it is saying that is should be burning 270ish calories for 30 mins, but I'm not sure how accurate that is? I know my heart rate is very high through the whole thing but I dont have a hrm (yet) to monitor exactly what it is at. But, for 30 mins of elliptical training (on a machine that monitors HR) im only burning 300- would 30 mins of circuit really only be 30 calories less than 30 mins of the elliptical?

That sounds about right...I have a personal trainer and for a whole hour I burn somewhere in the 500's each time and that is with my HRM..we do a round of circuit training take a 2 min rest and then another round...With an initial 10 minute warm up on the elliptical at crossramp 8, resisitance 10...

Hi...I have a membership at that gym also....when I work out on the circuit I log it as the circuit simply because when you are on the steps your heart rat does go up but you do not burn a lot of cal when you are using weights.... but the best way to track is to use a HRM, I have one and every time I use it on the circuit it varys depending on how much effort I am putting into my workout....

    good luck!!!

It doesn't really matter how many calories you burn during a workout. It's nice window dressing for the purposes of tracking things, but keep in mind that a lot of the time, weight training, interval cardio and even circuit training have a prolonged effect on your metabolism, meaning that even if you have a HRM that says you burned 400 calories, your body will continue to burn after your workout, which make your HRM a waste of money.

    Hi
Get a HRM as soon as you can . I found that gym equipment is very unreliable in calorie counting.
If you change your hand positions on the equipment you lose some info but a HRM gets everything . I just got one off Ebay and now wouldn't be without it .

    Happy Counting

Umm,...you leave the monitor on until you are back to your resting rate. Worth every penny for those wanting to track burn and time to recovery.

I have a bowflex one, but it was possibly the worst waste of money ever- I stopped using it becuase it would stop tracking my heart rate, wouldnt let me reset anything, and i think im up to about 200 laps becuase it wont let me stop the laps or reset it to 0. Once I get money again i think im going to get a polar one since they seem to be getting the best reviews, but until then i was just curious about how many calories (about) i was burning
