Hello all-
Looking for advice on ways to get my water up, fiber up, protein up... and sodium DOWN! I haven't been doing well tracking my food... so I'm really trying to get myself into a better habit about it (mfp blackberry app PLEASE!). ive been trying to drink at least 4-18oz bottles of water a day... (not counting what I drink when I exercise), I need to work on my fiber... for obvious reasons haha, and i know i should be working on getting my protein up (and carbs down) especially with all of the exercise I do. As for sodium... I'm bad about grabbing processed foods when I'm in a hurry. I ventured into Trader Joe's and bought some frozen things there... the sodiums lower, and its made with better ingredients than other frozen foods.
Any suggestions would be great!
Looking for new helpful ideas, and new things to eat... 40 lbs down and I'm getting bored of eating the same things

special k protein water mix packets. i think its 10 calories with 10 g of protein and 5g of fiber! (ups your water along with filling u up and boosting both things you are lookin to boost)
i love fiber one bars. and their yogurt is even better 5g of fiber for 50 cals.
i also work at dairy queen and they have fat free sugar free fudge bars with 6g of protein and 9g of fiber for 45 calories. i always buy them. stores prolly have some type of brand like it.
as for your water goal, you are doing great! well much better them me hehe0 -
Fiber is pretty easy, I have psyllium and bran fiber sitting around and if I'm low on fiber I'll add a scoop to whatever is for dinner.... mashed potatoes (mine are just boiled potatoes that get mashed, no added butter no milk etc) even to my oatmeal sometimes, sprinkled over my peanut butter before I add honey....
Sodium down I've been having trouble with myself this last week or so, but avoid processed food whenever possible, take one day to load up on groceries and prep things when they come in the house. Convenient when you're feeling like a snack to be able to go to the fridge and grab celery or carrots that are pre-sliced ready to eat. Cook meals ahead, if lean cuisine can freeze pasta so can I, short term at least, I'll make a big pot of goulash and portion it out freezing the servings, it freezes with no ill effects for a month anyway. When I make pancakes or french toast I make extra and freeze them, pop them in the toaster just like you do the eggo's to prepare them for eating. If you've got foods made by you ready to go where you've controlled the sodium and other stuff going in you can meet your goals!0 -
I have the most amazing smoothie every single day that helps with protein and fiber (also motivates me to work out hard so i can have it!)
My dad introduced me to it and i don't know exact measurements because I just fill the blender cup thing up to what he showed me but here is whats in it. (inexpensive and truly a treat everyday!)
First I use a whole banana broken up into the cup.
Half a cup of vanilla almond milk.
A handful of FROZEN blueberrys.
4 or 5 FROZEN strawberrys.
Half a scoop of Whey Protein powder.
Fill the rest of the cup with FROZEN mango/papaya/pineapple.
Then you fill in the empty space with Acai Juice
And Blend! Viola.. the yummiest smoothie i have ever come across and great for you! I have one everyday and it will give me extra energy! I cant remember the exact ounces the little blender thing is but its one where it comes with the little cups and u blend right in the cup, unscrew the lid and eat right out of it.
Of course the diff fruits can be substituted if u dont like a certain kind.. walmart has a huge variety of frozen fruits. Thats the key.. make sure they are frozen because thats where the iceyness comes from.. soooooo good!! lol0 -
Trader Joe's is my absolute favorite place to shop! I buy everything there! I eat a lot of fresh fruits which have fiber and oatmeal is also good for fiber.
I love to get the frozen salmon filets from TJ's. I just get a nonstick pan, season with salt and pepper, cook on each side over med-high heat for about 4 minutes on one side and then 2-3 on the other. Voila! Tasty salmon. Pair that with some Trader Joe's frozen Organic Brown rice (3 min in the micro) and a cup of broccoli (also at Trader Joe's in the frozen section) and you have a great meal that takes less than 20 minutes from start to finish.
I also stock up on Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal because it has as much protein as eggs. If you pair it with a good soy or almond milk or even goat's whole milk, it gives you a little extra protein in the morning. All of which is at Trader Joe's.
I may seem like I'm tooting the horn a little for Trader Joe's, but if you go back about a month and look at my food diary, literally everything I eat in a day is from there. The only thing I don't eat there regularly is the fresh meat. I usually buy my pork chops, chicken and various bacons from a local Amish market. It's just cheaper and the meat is better there. Otherwise, I would recommend Trader Joe's to anyone.
They also usually have Pure Protein shakes that are yummy and have like 25-35 grams of protein. Only 100-170 calories per shake. I grab one in the morning if I'm running late. Does the trick.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!0 -

I made my first venture into Trader Joe's this past weekend... I need to go back again soon. Everything looked yummy... and healthier. I had a hard time deciding! haha0 -

I get lost there. It's always so busy, but after a few times, you learn where things are and you can get in and get out. The worst thing is when I go and there's no one there. I have WAY too much time to look around and I end up buying too much stuff! The best part is that no matter how much I buy I never seem to spend much money. I think my record was a little over $100. And I've only gone over $100 once! It's a great feeling.0 -

I spent $50... pretty good for me. Definitely going back next week to try more things!0
