Does anyone know if coughing burns calories??? i had flu last week and lost half a stone down to high temp etc, that has all cleared up but i have been left with a horrid cough. any weight loss this week could also be put down to my lack of appetite but still if i am suffering from this cough it might as well as be usefull and burn some calories lol x

That is hilarious! Let's just put it this way . . . if you add "coughing" and its calories to the database, I'm adding "breathing" and its calories!!:laugh:0

I'm with ya! I've been sick the past 3 weeks and because of this, I missed out on a lot of excercise. With 15 calories & 4 grams of sugar in one cough drop....I'm really hoping the coughing helped at least burn off the cough drop calories.0

Awww poor chicken! I lost 4lbs that week I was off with bronchitis and didn't gain them back after...despite cough syrup & all the rest. I'm pretty sure coughing does burn calories, but I wouldn't say they're exercise calories...though I DO like the idea of that, haha ^_^
I just made sure I chose food extra well while I was ill, focused mainly on veggies, slept my head off & allowed my body to heal... That was all 13lbs ago - still going strong! Just be gentle with yourself & get well soon. Love ya lots babe, keep at it, you're doing so well! xx0 -
I'll try to find the study source, but usually when you lose weight from being sick you are actually losing LMM (lean muscle mass). That's why it's hard to "gain" it back afterwards.0

While I don't disagree with what you're saying I'd just like to point out that not only didn't I gain those 4lbs back - I continued to lose body fat % too. I've lost another 6.5% body fat since I was last ill (last week of Jan) & I'm toning up nicely now. My only point is: if you're patient, gentle with yourself, choose wisely and keep at it there's no reason for a bought of flu to be a real set back. I don't dispute that I probably lost a bit of LMM during that time, but I got straight back into it when I was well enough (I eased into it but nonetheless). It's a cumulative effect in the end aka a lifestyle change & if you're truly committed to it, nothing's going to stop you. I've been ill twice during my 5 month journey & had to take time out, but I didn't let that stop me. I've also, a couple of times taken a so-called "break" (but continued to choose wisely) e.g. over Christmas - and didn't gain during those times either, I maintained. It's all about perseverance and staying focused on your goal.
Good luck everyone I'm so close now - only 8 more little pounds to go :drinker: YAY!!0
