Hi I am doing the Atkins diet again, did it 10 years ago but did not stick with it for long,:ohwell: could not get past the headaches and the lack of vegetable, this time seems better, following the Atkins website and using the free tools and meal plans. Started on Saturday and have lost 2 pounds already. The carb cravings are finally subsiding but night time is still the worst

Good luck... Atkins is tuff and hard to stick to.. I've found that I can lose weight without using Atkins (as everyone said otherwise) .. and MFP is a good tool for this.

Be sure to alter your goal settings as MFP does not take in account a low carb diet...

I've been there and heavy again, I would strongly suggest you exercise and follow the calorie recommendations on this website. Atkins is unsustainable...it is a diet not a lifestyle.
If you follow this website you will lose weight at a safe and sustainable rate. The best part about it is that once you understand what you should and shouldn't eat it is sustainable. If one day you want to go out with friends, you won't have to go through those first few days of hell to get back on track. No mood swings, no feeling like garbage, just healthy eating and living. Do you really want to never have a bowl of ice cream, or a roll at a restaurant, or endlessly worry that you can't eat ANYTHING at a party because of carbs.

Really I've been there, I lost 78 lbs under Atkins and over a few years gained back 68. Now I'm 66 down and healthy, happy and I can eat like a "normal" person. I have just learned to eat healthy and make good choices.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
  • As your sister i can tell you that we both did this and well it works short term but i think for you it is a good start to get you motivated as it will show results quickly but i think long term the tracking and the food diary will help you figure out the best way to eat. i totally blew it today and instead of feeling bad i know that i wnet over and by how much (bad lunch) but that i have to go extra light at dinner and plenty of water and right back on track. and you know what i feel like crap after eating that junk so blah.....
good luck we can do it.

did it about 7 years ago. gained it all back and then some. tried it again a few years later and lost some but not as much as the first time. Yeah gained it all back and then some. I have just found the eating in moderation and exercise has been the best.

And here I thought I was the only one!

I found Atkins to be just as useful a tool as this one in the past. Both depend on your continued commitment and common sense. My falling off the wagon was not the diet's fault. This time around I'm trying to combine tools so that I can keep better track of what goes in and what burns off. But I think it's as effective a tool for certain people as anything else. Knowing yourself is most important.

If you'd like a friend in a similar situation, feel free to add me. Good luck!
