I am curious....do you guys think I would be better off combining P90X strength videos (no yoga, plyometrics, kenpo) with cardio x 5 days a week or jillian michaels NMTZ & BFBM each day?? I have yet to do the 2 JM videos but I wanted to see what everyone else had to say as for what would bring better results quicker? Either way I would be doing ab ripper x MWF and my 5 min iphone arms, abs, and butt apps. I do love P90X strength videos but I am not sure if the JM videos would be more effective to get faster/better results? Thanks for your input in advance; I greatly appreciate it!!

doing research on p90x and jillian michaels, ive found that most people say p90x adds a lot more bulk, whereas jillian's videos are more geared towards toning and losing inches...as a woman. it really depends what you want out of this: to be big and muscular, or slim and toned...0

I am on round 2 of p90x....and I did not "Bulk Up" I slimmed down and toned. I lost 21 lbs and ton of inches! You can see my 90 day before and after pics in my profile.
I have not done jillian michaels so I can not account for it.
BUT I will tell you as a woman you will not bulk up from doing p90x!
Whichever you choose, I am sure you will get results!
Good Luck! :bigsmile:0 -
I've tried them both and if I had to pick just one I'd choose Jillian. P90X is just too geared towards men and takes an hour and half each day. Where Jillian's video's are around 45 minutes.0

Its funny that you asked this question, as I have both DVD sets now. I have INSANITY too. So now, I need to decide WHICH one I want to do first. I was so confused today as to which one, I decided to go for a run INSTEAD. lol!!! I think im going with Jillian Michaels for my first go-around.0

Sorry I wasn't clear about that - I am looking to slim down a bit - lose about 18 more pounds and tone up a lot. I know A LOT of people have had successes with P90X, but I am not sure if that is also from following the diet plan? Jw if the 2 JM videos in combination daily, or P90X videos in combination daily would be more effective. Thanks!!!0

you just cant compare these 2, there nothing a like.:noway:
you gotta try both and get your own opinion.0 -
I forgot to also mention, I have knee problems that are not too bad right now but are getting worse over time... not sure if that would make a difference...0

This is one of my personal pet peeves. Women lifting weights, even heavy weights will not be big and muscular!! I finished P90X and moved onto Insanity - I'm 40 years old - 10lbs away from my "goal" weight - and a size 0. I can use fairly heavy dumbbells, I can bench press my own weight and I do anything I can at a high intensity - and frankly, am not big or muscular, P90X will not do that, I did the classic version not the lean.
I haven't done JM, so don't know specifically what her routines are like. I think you are probably comparing apples and oranges. I'd suggest Chalean Xtreme over JM, but that's because JM attitude annoys me, I don't think people need to be degraded to work out. I'm more about positive and fun.
You can always modify Plyo and Kenpo if you are worried about too high of impact. I personally think in order to get the best results, you need to stick with a program the way it was written. The Yoga and XStretch are things I never did before P90X and found they were of huge benefits to my fitness I had missed before.
I think the bottom line is you need to do a program that you will stick with. There are many on these boards who have done P90X without the nutrition program and still had great results. I didn't lose weight with P90X, but I lost SO many inches an my body fat % dropped.0 -

THANK YOU. Ladies, you're not going to turn into the incredible hulk from doing P90X. You might get cut and look very sculpted, but you're not going to pack on all these pounds of muscle, it just doesn't work that way! I'd go for P90X and just modify the moves, but it is all about personal preference and what you'll be liable to stick with. If you like the 'teaching style' of one trainer over the other, choose the one you like the best. Sticking to either plan on a daily basis is going to benefit you regardless of which program you decide on.0 -
nope... you will not turn into the incredible hulk. you will however gain msucle, whereas with jillian michaels you will lose more weight than gain muscle... youre using light weights and doing more cardio...p90x is designed to build muscle, not lose weight.0

I actually did BFBM and NMTZ for five weeks alternating days 6 days a week and I lost about 3 pounds. Doing P90X I lost 14 pounds and got to eat way more food because I was burning more calories. I did not follow the meal plan, I just followed MFP and logged my food. I'm so much more slim and toned since doing P90X. IDK, you can look at my profile pics, I don't think I look bulky. My results came much quicker with P90X. I love JM, I recommend her to everyone. However, since you asked to compare the two programs, I just don't think they are in the same league, even for weight loss.
The knee problems do not matter. There are plyometrics and lunge type exercises in each program. You'd just have to modify at your own discretion for either.0 -
I lost 21 lbs doing my first round of p90x!0
