I want to know which is the way to go? P90X looks like it can really kick butt! So does the Insanity. I want to know from all those who are doing either one or both to help me make the decision of which one to get or to not get either one. I am looking for a boost and I am hoping I can find answers on which way to go.

It really depends on what you are looking to accomplish and what your current fitness level is. Both are intense (that's an understatement)! In all honesty you may be better starting off with another program like Turbo Jam or Slim in 6 and build up to P90X.
  • Hi, I am doing Insanity right now. I am almost half way through and it kicks my butt everytime! Its nice because I didn't need to buy a bunch of weights or anything. All I bought was a nice pair of training shoes! I love it and I am seeing results. I went to the beach a week or so ago and was able to run with my toddler on the beach. I wasn't huffing and puffing like I had when I was heavier! Its definitely a life changer!
  • I did p90x last year and love it. I did insanity 6months ago and it was to difficult for me. Too intense and I injured myself and could not finish it.

I will echo my buddy Stooooo's comments in terms of knowing what you want out of your workout...I have not done Insanity yet (it's on the list...maybe this fall). I AM, however, doing P90X (Lean program). I did P90X because I wanted to get something beyond the normal cardio I was getting with my elliptical. I had lost significant weight, but I needed to build some lean muscle. I did the Lean program as I was, quite frankly, a bit intimidated by the Classic program (Lean has a cardio focus with resistance training, Classic has a more resistance training focus, but both programs do both). My plans are to take a week or two break after completing lean in late May and then do another round of P90X (this time Classic) and possibly do Insanity late this year.

I have heard good things about Insanity. You probably cannot go wrong with either, depending on your goals. You can either ease into something a little less intense like Stooooo recommends or do P90X, knowing that you might have a fitness curve to hurdle over. I jumped into P90X knowing I would struggle and that is half the battle...not going in with unrealistic expectations. The cool thing is everytime you do P90X, you do things a little bit longer, a little bit cleaner, with a little more confidence, and all the while sweating your butt off.

    Good luck!
  • I do P90x and does wonders for your body! For now I only do a few of the dvds since I gained so much weight from my pregnancy and want to slim a little before i go full on P90X.......Kenpo, Cardio X and AB RipperX is what i do and have lost 10 lbs since i started and that was on Feb 23rd.....I myself think its better, have seen my friend do insanity and its too much too fast and she got injured a few times from it.

You should ask Stooooo for more input on the programs. At this point in your weight loss journey I think that Insanity would be just too much. It's hard on the knees and you have to do a lot of up/down drills, drop and knock out push-ups, get back up and do it all over again. It may get to the point that you'll hate it and get discouraged. There are many other programs by the same company (Beachbody) that will get you ready for something like insanity. Like he mentioned, Slim in 6 and possibly Chalean Extreme.

I echo Edorice - Insanity can be hard on the knees, so you'll want to be careful and watch your form!! I am an asthmatic and am currently doing a mix of ChaLEAN Extreme and Insanity. On my worst asthma days, I still push play on Insanity and just do as much as I can - no need to get discouraged, just keep moving, jumping back in where ever you can!! ChaLEAN Extreme, like P90X incorporates strength training with weights or resistance bands - either works - and helps you build your muscle which is important to keep your metabolism running at optimum. Insanity is pretty much strictly cardio - it does do some strength training using your own body weight for resistance, but I prefer the weights!

Good luck, which ever you decide!!
