Ok,I finally broke down and bought the WII & balance board. . .used it last night, and unfortunately some of the exercises made my bum knee sore(and the hip on the opposite side of said bum knee), i'm going to keep at it, maybe rotate it with speed walking with the dogs and biking on the stationary bike, but am wondering what other WII activities you recommend?

  • i love the biggest loser game.... challenging, but it changes up the workouts. i also really like the just dance games, fun, and a good workout. i am right now waiting for my copy of zumba to come in. can't wait for that

I love Zumba. Also i switch up between the Just Dance 2 ( just sweat part) Golds Gym Dance Work Out, Biggest Loser and EA Active. EA Active i find harder since i have a bad knee to theres lots of squatting and it hurts sometimes.

Biggest loser. But it is way off on cals burned. So I use my hrm when playing. But I mainly do the wii fit for about an hr. I do the boxing and step and running. My 3 yr old loves to do the super hula hoop with me lol. Next game I get is the michael jackson game :) and then dance dance revolution.

Other good ones are the DDR - Dance Dance Revolution. I find that gives you a great workout as well and they are fun to do.
  • I love my Zumba. Highly recommended. It's such a fun workout. The 45 minutes goes by so quickly.

I like Michael Jackson The Experience (Dance game). Really fun. I also play tennis and do boxing using the Wii Sports game; both of these activities are in the Exercise database already to log calories burned.

I love the Wii Zumba, Just Dance 2, and Michael Jackson Experience. They all get you moving and sweating. I feel good after doing them. I also love the EA Active for the Wii, but even with not having bad knees, some of the lunges are tough sometimes. I would definitely try some of the dancing games though :)

I love the Your Shape with Jenny Mccarthy, it has a camera to make sure you are doing everything the right way and I find it much more challenging than wii fit.

With this do you need the Wii Fit?? I just got a regular Wii this past weekend but all I have is the sports games which are very fun but I want more lol!

you don't need the balance board for any of the games i listed.... if you have one you can use it though. biggest loser uses it to track your weight or for some of the exercises to help keep track of how well you are doing a specific exercise., but all the exercises can be done without the board... however, when ppl say that it doesn't track calories well, i would have to agree. it only tracks correctly if you do every one absolutely perfect.

Thank you so much!! I really can't afford to get everything right now but I still want to get a good workout. I guess I will still get these games just without the board. I have my own HRM and scale at home so those will have to work for now lol!! Thanks again!
  • before i bought any of them, i rented them at the video store to make sure i enjoyed them first..... might be a good idea for you

Check your local library-mine has a lot of Wii games.
  • I use Wii Fit Plus, although I don't really believe the calorie count it gives me. The count just seems a little bit too *optimistic* IMO. LOL! I try to do a good balance of exercises from every group (aerobics, yoga, strength training, etc.). I can definitely see a difference over time in myself, although I am certain it's not nearly as much as it would be obviously be if I were working out in a gym for that same amount of time. (Alas, getting to a gym does not work for me at the moment due to $, time, etc.) I'll have to check that Zumba Wii one out because it seems everyone here likes it.

I have a bum knee, too (and shoulder and back... LOL!), and I must say the strength training and yoga exercises really help limber my knee up, and I can definitely feel the muscles in that area getting stronger over time. I also have the stand that makes the Wii platform higher for the step aerobics game, and that makes the game a tad bit more productive, thus giving my knee an added push.

    thanks guys

Cat, I'll keep trying them, as I want my knee stronger, tried the half moon yoga pose last night tho, and just couldn't stand still as long as the figure ont he screen was, not on the bad knee, wish it had an option to start the exercise on the other knee.

Mom2 I didn't believe the calorie counter on wii fit either til I wore my hrm during my workout and the wii fit plus was dead on for me. I enjoy the wii fit. Best 99 bucks I've ever spent.

Now if you went to learn a foreign language, you wouldn't expect to be fluent within a fortnight would you? It takes time to get your muscles working, and the half moon pose isn't the easiest! Why not try the step. It's only a few minutes to start with and it will start to tone your quads. Then as you work through you'll be able to do 30 mins but watching tv.

Ah, thought cuz it was at the top of the screen it was the easier of them. I did the step multiple times last night :) Unfortuantely there'll be no watching TV, no reception in the room I'm set up in, and the TV was bought for only Wii LOL maybe I'll see if I can hook my DVR up and watch movies

I do Wii Zumba, and that doesn't bother my knees at all, when other things do. But I have had a hard time with my hips, but I'm learning that I'm not doing moves right, and it's getting better.
