Hey everybody, just thought I'd see what kind of martial artists we have out there! Tell me what kind of martial art you train in and how its helped you in your fitness quest.

I am a Northern Praying Mantis and Xingyi kung fu practitioner.

Muay Thai here. Been at it for 5 months. It has really brought my cardio to a whole new level. My entire life has improved from the things I have learned in muay Thai.

I practice kickboxing and some Muay Thai. Which I do three to four times a week. I absolutely love it! I have lost 37 pounds by doing that and watching my diet. I love the sport and the more I do it the more serious I am getting into it.

Kickboxing ,tae kwon do, grappling (kind of a MMA workout) for a bout a year. helps with strengthening, cardio and learning how to take a punch to the face (don't like that part so much)

In the past I have done Tae Kwon Do, more recently Kenpo.

I have been taking Ishin Ryo Ju Jitsu irregularly since I was a teen. It's mostly helped my formerly raging temper. Physically, I think that my flexibility and balance are better than they would be otherwise, but can't say it has helped my strength or stamina.

    Hey all,

I've been training in Isshinryu Karate for 3 years and recently earned my brown belt. I also have cross trained in Judo (traditional Kodokan) and basic Japanese Jiu Jitsu. Martial arts is my main fitness source these days. All the advertised benefits have been there for me: increased strength, cardio, flexibility, keeping bullies from picking on me (i.e. my wife), etc...

I'm a little late to the topic but....
I train in Capoeira & Jeet Kune Do (Mix of Wing Tsun, Jiu Jitsu and boxing)
Been with Capoeira for almost 3 years and JKD for a little over a year.
As far as fitness goes. It has been a struggle all the way. I am still building the strength required for Capoeira and the speed required for JKD is forcing me to work on my cardio.
All in all I am doing OK for my age and size.
