I did C25K last year and loved it! I did lose weight, but I noticed the biggest difference in my muscle tone. My legs have never looked better and my core was STRONG. My doctor wouldn't let me run for several months this fall/winter due to a joint injury, but now that he's given me the ok I'll be getting back to running with C25K/B210K in March.
  • I lost 48lbs when I first did couch to 5k. I ate between 1200-1400 calories a day. I started off doing 3 days a week and progressed to five days. I continued to run even after I finished the program. When I got pregnant, I became lazy and gained about 90 lbs. I'm working on getting that weight off now and then some. I just started the couch to 5k again yesterday with a 20lb baby sitting in a 20lb stroller. It is a lot easier this time around, but it's still a challenge.

I think it's a great workout and you never have an excuse not to do it. I prefer to run outdoors and even in the rain I'd still be out there. I do spend about 12-15 days a month traveling and in hotels and I'd hop on the treadmill too. I think if you're focus is more on fitness and health, you will be more successful. I WANTED to go on my daily runs by the end of the program. After I was done with couch to 5k, I could easily run 45 minutes without stopping. I can't wait to get back there again.

When I started my weight loss journey I lost a lot of my weight from following the C25K program, and running several 5ks...hit a plateau and now I'm onto Insanity to get some lean muscles in! Oh, and I have a healthier lifestyle when it comes to eating...that always is important too :P

I just started yesterday and feel like it was a wonderful workout!!! I am sore EVERYWHERE today! Crazy! So, I'm just curious, who has done this and did you lose weight? Did you just do the recommended 3 days a week?

Just a note on weightloss- As long as you have an appropriate calorie deficit, you will lose weight. Diet for weight, excersize for fitness.

I want to bump this topic up b/c I'm looking to be inspired! I've lost 17 lbs with MFP and my goal is 8 more. Once I get there I'll reevaluate and see how much more I want to lose. I am now in a size 10 pants, decreased from a 14 so I'm totally excited! I plan on beginning the C25K today after work, but it's been a busy weekend and I'm pooped. I've got the app loaded on my phone and Spotify loaded with a running playlist. Now all I need to do is get my butt on the treadmill! I am not a runner and have never been a runner, unless it was to open a pack of double-stuffed oreos. I'm telling myself "I think I can...I think I can", but have this little voice in my head saying, "there is nooooo way you can run 30 minutes today". So.....feel free to send me your words of enthusiasm!!! -lyz

You can do it! I felt the same but I just finished week 4. Its a wonderful program and you will amaze yourself.
  • just heard about this app at work. I am a pretty big gal but am interested in trying this out. My neighbor said she was also interested. My kids are 8 and 10. They have a running club at school and have already run a 5K, with more on the calendar. I thought it would be fun if I got involved also. My goal would be a 5K "in the future". I've recently lost 35lbs without an exercise program. I have a good 50 more to go.

This an old post but I've started this today and after reading these posts I'm really excited to be doing the couch to 5k. I used yo be a runner back in my day and need to loose over 50 pounds to start getting back to where I'd like to be and see and hearing all the positivity is very motivating.

It depends on whether you enjoy running.

There's no reason to repeat the program unless you take a long break from running. It's designed to give you the stamina and strength to run 5K; once you can do that, there's no point in starting back at the beginning again.

Some people turn to a bridge to 10k program (Google to find various options). Some decide they want to improve their speed and turn to a program to train for a 5K race (Hal Higdon has some good ones). Some decide they want to run a marathon (if you do, I recommend Jeff Galloway's program).

My goal for doing C25K this winter was cross training for cycling, and to have an exercise I could do while traveling. So after I finished the program, I kept running three times a week (most weeks), with two runs of 3-4 miles (5-6.5 km) and one weekend run that is a bit longer (6 miles most recently). When I was in my 20s, I ran faster, longer, and more often, but I also got more running injuries, so I'm taking it easier now that I'm in my 40s. There's a good 5.4 mile loop from my house, with a serious hill at the end, so I might work up to doing that twice a week, and then a longer weekend run of up to 10 or 11 miles, but I might decide that's too much on top of cycling 50-150 miles a week.
