Heart rate monitor question...

I have been using my heart rate monitor for cardio only. Today I left it on during my weights to see what I would get. I work my legs really hard and today for a 40 minute leg workout I showed a burn of 250 cals. Does anyone log their weights? Is the heart rate monitor accurate for use during "non aerobic" activity? Just wanted a general survey...thanks
