I am a bit confused about the calorie goals. Should I aim to get 1270(which is my daily goal) in food alone, or should it 1270 after to exercise. My mom use to lose her hair when she ate only 900 calories a day and her exercise plan was 8 miles of walking.

This is how I have been doing it, I ate 1600 calories yesterday and did 500 calories in exercise.

I am additionally frustrated because I have plateaued at 19 pounds.

You want to be at 1270 in food after you exercise. You can go lower than that but not lower than 1200. The 1270 is a calorie deficit that MFP gives you to hit your weekly weigh loss goal you put in. It takes into account your lifestyle too.

yesterday when you ate 1600 and worked out burning 500 your net calories were 1100. You won't go into starvation mode going under 1200 calories once in a while, so don't sweat it too much, but try to keep close to 1200 and you should be fine.

I don't know about your moms diet and hair loss, but I would be very careful that you are calculating your calories in and out accurately. You don't want to accidentally be miscalculating and have the same thing happen. If she was eating 900 cal and walking 8 miles she might have actually been netting 400 +/- calories a day.

You should be fine and not going to close to that.
