Hudson Sport Delux Heart Rate Monitor doesn't count calories

So my boyfriend had a brand new HRM sitting in the back of his gear closet, and I wanted to try to use it to track calories burned through exercise. However, it looks like it might not track them? The HRM is geared toward runners, with the ability to count laps, and keeps track of your heart rate and the maximum heart rate achieved for the duration of the exercise.
So, two questions: anyone else using one of these and can guide me through getting it to show calories? alternately, anyone know how to calculate calories burnt off of the information it WILL give me?

Compute the calories burned if you're male. You can accomplish this with the following equation: calories burned = (0.2017 x age in years + 0.09036 x weight in pounds + 0.6309 x average heart rate - 55.0969) x elapsed time / 4.184.
Calculate the calories burned if you're female. This is given by the equation calories burned = (0.074 x age in years - 0.05741 x weight in pounds + 0.4472 x average heart rate - 20.4022) x time elapsed / 4.184.
For an example calculation, a 43-year-old female weighing 143 pounds exercised for 45 minutes with an average heart rate during the session of 141 bpm: (0.074 x 43 - 0.05741 x 143 + 0.4472 x 141 - 20.4022) x 45 / 4.184 = 405 calories during your exercise session.0 -
Most heart rate monitors have to be calibrated by putting in your age, height, weight sex, etc... so it may not have been counting because it is programmed for him.Try resetting it for you and see if it works then.0

Yeah I've read over the manual and this doesn't have the option to do that.0 -
Wow! I have the same problem with my HRM...I thought that they all gave you cals burned, but apparently not. I have come to the conclusion that I have to buy another one. Mine is a Series A Body Fit HRM...it auto programs your hi and lo zones acc. to age, has time, timers, chronographs and all, but NO CALS BURNED CALCULATOR!!!:ohwell:0
