Eating before eating?

Am I the only one who feels it's a bit silly to eat right before going to eat? For me, it kind of ruins it because I feel like anything I eat at the restaurant is just EXTRA food. Even if all I had was an apple or some celery before going. Am I doing this wrong? It there a time frame for this? A set amount?

Don't get it twisted, I understand not going to a restaurant FAMISHED, but always eating before you go seems..... awful.

The point is to eat a lower-calorie option so you aren't so tempted to order everything on the menu. :) Or like when I went out with my hubby for his birthday a few weeks ago, I was able to cut my entree in half and box it up before I even started eating, and since I wasn't just starving when I went there, it didn't feel like a sacrifice.

If you're worried about extra calories, nibble on a couple pieces of celery It is very low calorie-, full of water and the diuretic quality of it may actually offset a bit of the salt that you'll get in your food in the restaurant. I think it is a great idea to give yourself a leg up if you have a will power problem like I do. Having satiated my raw hunger, then I am able to make smarter choices, rather than just filling my face with appetizers and what ever I can get my hands on. Perhaps you're having better luck than I.. Best wishes!

I feel the same way. Eating before eating out doesn't make any sense to me. Why add the extra calories? Either eat your snack at home or skip it and eat out. Eating an apple before a meal actually makes me hungrier in most cases.
