i have a Polar FT7 with the chest strap. i burn around 270 calories for about 30 minutes of hard cardio on the elliptical (HR is in the 150s to upper 160s). however, the machine tells me i burn around 330 or so. i am inclined to trust my HRM, but i feel like i should be burning more calories...i weigh 298 lbs. i thought you burned more when you weighed more? can someone fill me in?

thanks guys!

I recently got the same model and am finding that it says that I am burning way fewer cals than the machine. 'On average, I am burning around 100 cals/10 mins. I have been working out now for a good year, so I think I need to challege myself more to get into my target heart rate faster and keep it there. But don't feel alone, I understand where you're coming from. I got a little disheartened because I thought I was burning more cals than I really am. I am 5'5 and 230lbs.

But now that I've had it a little over 2 weeks, I am finding ways to get my heart rate up faster and to maximize my workouts. Remember that your body keeps burning for up to 1 hour after you are done working out too ;-)

yes, and that's the weird thing. i burn like, 10 more calories than the treadmill tells me i do. but everything else, on the machine, i burn way more than what my HRM says.
