Calorie question

I have been told that I should eat as much of my allotted calories everyday in order to keep my metabolism burning at the same rate. I was told that large fluctuations in my calorie intake may cause my metabolism to get a bit out of whack. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I just want to make sure the progress I have made to this point is being done the right way. Tha ks again for all of your help!
