polar ft7 very basic and it has a chest strap that digs on the plastic parts so file them down
  • You can expect to pay about $70 to $90 retail for a good HRM.
I use a Timex with the chest strap and watch.

If you are looking for one without the strap, you can look into either the Sportline Duo or Mio Motiva.

Also the Polar Ft4 gets great reviews.

The chest strap isn't uncomfortable, and it adjust to fit around you, I would go with a model that uses a chest strap, I'm not sold on the ones that are just a watch.

    Hope this helps

I have a Polar HRM that I love. It has a chest strap, which you don't even notice. I had a friend get one of the watch only styles, and she had to actually press and hold the watch to read her heart rate. I got one of the lower end Polar's, and it tells me at a glance what my heart rate is, if I am in my zone, and how many calories I have burned. I also love that it automatically syncs with cardio equipment at the gym, so I can just glance at the treadmill to monitor where I am at. It made a world of difference in my workout! I find I push myself harder, seeing the results at a glance.

I have the Polar FT7 and really like it. I paid about $107 for it so it isn't exactly cheap but I hear it's pretty accurate.

I just bout the Garmin FR60 (watch and chest strap) and am so far I am loving it. It has a jump drive that sync's with the watch so you can download your workouts and see your HR on a graph. Bonus... it comes in Purple and I don't even notice the chest strap.

Last week I picked up a Polar F4 on Amazon for under $70. So far I really like it. During your workout there are several views: heart rate, calories burned, time, and zone range with heart rate. All of which are easily accessed-- very user friendly. When you are finished it shows the duration of your workout, how many calories you burned, average heart rate, maximum heart rate, and the duration you were in your zone. It stores your data also. I find the burn to be much different than the treadmill and MFP database. I am well endowed as well (44F), and had some concerns about the chest strap. It took a couple times for me to find the best way to wear it under my sports bra, and now I do not even know it is there. And no worries on drawing attention to yourself; you want to wear it under your clothes to get an accurate reading. Also Amazon offers a free Prime membership allowing you have it shipped free in two days. www.amazon.com/mom

I'm a 40DD and it doesn't cause any problems for me. I barely even notice it's there.

I owned a POLAR FT40 since Nov. 2010. great little device. it comes with a chest strap. you want to get one with a chest strap. they are simply more accurate than those without a chest strap.

I dont know what brand those folks are using that wear over their clothes but the Polar brand states you want it to contact your skin.

I am a big guy too, you can see my pics in my profile and I never cared what others thought when they saw me in the gym. in my opinion if you are too busy worrying what others think you are wasting your time in the gym. I am too focused on my routine and goals to worry about what others may think when I am in the gym
  • Yesterday I returned my Timex and exchanged it for the Polar FT4.
The Polar is MUCH easier to use. easy to set up and easy to use.
You do have to download the user manual from their website, and register with them if you want to use their training website.
but not that big of a deal to me.

    Go with the Polar!
