I don't watch the Biggest Loser, but I have co-workers who do and were talking about how great The Body Bug was.

Anyone know what this is; how does it work, are there other products like it, and why the heck does it cost almost $300????

It costs almost $300 because it's branded by The Biggest Loser and 24 Hour Fitness. The Body Media Fit is almost exactly identical is usage and purpose. The website is more user friendly (from what I've heard about the BodyBugg site) and it monitors your sleep patterns as well, which the BodyBugg doesn't.

I got mine for $150, shipped, with an extra armband, and an entire years subscription for the website from Costco.com. I love it, I wish I'd found out about it sooner and that I'd even bought it sooner after I first found out about it. MFP was great for me for the initial large amount of weight loss. But I'd been struggling with the last 10. After getting my BodyMedia Fit I've discovered that I was eating to few calories going by MFP goals for me, not including any additional exercise. I'd wanted to be around a 500 calorie deficit and I found out I was regularly over 1000 calorie deficit with what I was eating, which isn't really a healthy plan for where I'm at. So now I use MFP to log my food (the database is far superior, more user friendly and I can log it from my phone, which I can't with the BMF site. Plus I have a year of food data here that I don't want to lose the thoroughness of) but I use my BMF to see my burn, goals and deficits.
