Restless Leg

I'm one of those people that can't stop bouncing my legs during the day. I sit for about 6 hrs out of my 9 hour day and I spend about 95% of that time bouncing my leg. I've read a few things that calories are burnt while doing that, which would explain why I'm losing more than I'm suppose to. Would a calorie counter pick that up so I can keep track? Does anyone else do the same?

It does burn calories, but not enough to worry about. Besides that if you have been doing it all your life, your body is used to it and it should be considered part of your daily activity level. If your RLS is bad enough to make you get up and walk/dance it off on occasion....like you take 20-30 minutes.... that could be counted if it were vigorous activity.

Thank you! I've only been doing it for the past 2-3 months. Then what would explain the rapid loss compared to what my goal per week is (2lbs). I've lost a over 4 or so pounds this week, and I've maintained the calorie count allowance at about 50% of what I'm given. Workouts are also maintained to 5 days a week for 30mins a session.

You are only eatting half the allotted calories? You don't want to do that. You have to give your body nutrition in order for it to function properly. The minimum recommended for women is 1200 and 1500 for men per day. It is very difficult to get the nutrition you need with less than that. The first 2-3 weeks on a calorie restricted eatting plan usually yield a large drop in weight, mostly from water weight and some fat loss. After that it usually slows down to the 1-2 pounds per week IF you stick to the calorie allotment and eat back most of your exercise calories. If you don't consume enough nutrition your body will cannibalize itself in order to get what it needs to function. This would come from unused muscle tissue. It would also slow your metabolism after a while during that process. You can use the search function on the message boards to get answers to any questions you have. Check out the "stick pin" topics on the first page of the general diet board and the "help" in the upper right corner of any page too.

    Good Luck!

Thank you! I really appreciate the advise!
  • MzBug gave you great advice. You really shouldn't be only eating half your calories. Your body needs to be fed enough to burn fat.

It's not like I mean to either, it's just that I drink a lot of water throughout the day and the appetite isn't there like it was before.

You should definitely get some more calories in your day! Maybe keep some nuts or something else healthy to snack on at your desk and drink that water! =). I have rls and it actually isn't just bouncing your leg when your sitting. It feels like you're gonna jump out of your skin! Uncontrollable. Try taking some magnesium or potassium supplements - it helps me tremendously!
