Hungry and panicking!

I'm so frustrated! And I'm in a slight panic because I feel like my body is going berserk or something!

I'm eating within my calorie allowance and eating most of my exercise calories. It's been almost a month since I've started going this but I've been so hungry all week!

What is wrong with me? Is my body JUST tuning in that it's been in a deficit?!

Drink water and when you feel like eating, go outside and walk. Sometimes even walking 15 mins and drink a lot of water helps! Hang in there!!

i have the same problems some days, even when I eat a lot of protein and all my calories. I am going to bump this so I can see what people say! Thanks for posting!

Maybe your initial calorie intake is too low. What is your starting calorie bank? Can you open your diary so maybe we can suggest something for you? Its under settings. : ) Monica

This is gonna sound silly but is it that time of the month? I'm always STARVING when I have my period!

When water doesn't cut it for me I use flavored tea. Chai is my favorite. Sometimes the flavors trick me into feeling like I ate something without the calories.

I agree with the others. If you can show us your food diary, or copy and paste one day here if you don't wan't to open it, we can look and see if the food you eat is filling enough. Like, an apple is more filling than a bowl of chips.

Maybe you chose a sedentary life style, but you are active?
  • that sounds like a great idea!! i was trying to think of a way to curb my munching at night and was going to start walk/jog for 20 minutes instead of eating. I have no problem w exercise and i do good with food all day till night. and then i just ruin it. the only person that is doing it to myself is me and it pisses me off. but for some reason i just continue to do it. I NEED HELP lol

It could be hormones, I know I always get way more hungry one week a month. Alternatively, it could be what you're eating. If you're eating your calories but filling up on "empty" foods it's going to leave you more hungry. Try foods high in fiber that haven't been processed. Complex, whole foods take longer for your body to digest, hence you'll feel full longer. Sugars also spike your blood sugar and will make you hungry again when they crash. I love garbanzo beans, whole rolled oats, and lots of vegetables for filling foods. Lots of veggies are calorically "cheap" so you can fill up on them and stay full!

Sarah, I took a peek at your diary for today. When are you most hungry? You should be having 350 to 400 calories per meal and 2 100 calories snacks, around that and it's not an exact thing by any means. Maybe you aren't eating enough in the am.

Girls, please do not worry about your proteins, sugars, etc... showing exceeding your max for the day. Worry about the calories at this point. Keep it simple. People get too bogged down with the details and lose the race. You can edit them off if they make you too nervous too.

    FYI, Monica

(ps. I am not a doctor and don't claim to know anything about anything, so take what you will, leave the rest.) : )

I find it helps to have a protein shake, but I use half a scoop and mix it with water and extra fiber. That way you're only having about70 calories and the fiber is filling, the protein stays with you.

Sure I'll open it up for you guys! I want to fix the problem! Try perusing a few days since...really...this week wasn't that great...I think.

It may be that time of month though...I'll have to check the calender.

    Thanks so much all!

YUP! It's always AT NIGHT! I'm on my feet all day and since I teach I'm guzzling water all the time. But then I get home and BOOM! Hungry.

When you feel hungry go for protein, although its more calorie dense it keeps you feeling full for longer. A quick look at your diary shows you like carbs quite a lot & tend to go for potato, rice, pasta etc..whilst nothing wrong with these they do cause blood sugar spikes..which are followed by a crash which makes us hungry....search on google for the GI index & try and choose foods from low GI groups, that should help.

I know I get the most hungry at night - when I'm tired. Body confuses itself and when you think you are hungry - you are just overly exhausted instead.

Lise - From looking at your diary, I'd say you are overloaded with simple carbs, rice, carrots, pizza, sweet potatoes. Though some can be good you, you may find it helpful to limit them more and/or have them earlier in the day. They are probably triggering your cravings. Believe me I know. I AM A CARB ADDICT. : )

There is an interesting diet I did years ago and lost 30 pounds. The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. You eat two low carb meals (under 5 carbs total) and then whatever you want (absolutely anything) in a reward meal (must be eaten in one hour). I found it wonderful at the time and it was nice knowing everyday I could have whatever I wanted and slowly I wanted those things less.

I'd say I went over 5, but stayed under 10 carbs a meal. Its good to keep the same meal as the reward meal. Their science was this... the body releases insulin based on your previous two meals, so if one was low carb and one was not it balanced out the insulin release. If both are high carbs (even veggies, yogurts, ectc) then you will be overloaded with insulin and your body looks for carbs to kill, these creating hungry and major cravings.

FYI... only, do whatever you feel works for you. I'm sure you could get the book at the library if you wanted to learn more.

    Blessings!

I do like carbs...I usually go for the whole grain but it's not that prevalent here in Asia. Not to mentally unload on you all but, I'm actually AWAY from home and just, doing what I can with what I have, not necessarily my first choices but...I'm trying to make it work. Thanks for your help! I will definite check out the GI Index.

It's funny how you can know something and not really REALIZE it until someone points it out to you...yes...I see it is the carbs...I'm going to check out that Carb Addict Diet though! Thanks for the suggestions and time!
