My friend gave me an awesome, easy shrimp recipe.

1) Marinate uncooked shrimp in EVOO with whatever spices/herbs you want for 1 hour in fridge
2) Cook in hot pan until pink

Other than salt and pepper, I don't know what spices/herbs to use! Any suggestions?!?!?! I would be greatly appreciative!

I love using garlic and a little parsley & basil ...... then usually after I cook it, I bake it in the oven for like 5 minutes with a little sprinkling of parmesan cheese on top.

Lime juice, cilantro and garlic would be good too.
  • For fish and seafood's you can use basil, bay leaf, tarragon, lemon, lime, thyme , parsley, garlic, dill, chervil, fennel. I like to go hot & spicy with garlic and lime juice.

I tried this last summer - and it was an AMAZING marinade!! You could saute it, or grill it on skewers. (Why yes, I do have this recipe saved on my drive at work!)

    2 tablespoons lime juice
    2 tablespoons tequila
    1/4 cup olive oil
    1 pinch garlic salt
    1 pinch ground cumin
    ground black pepper to taste
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

Whisk together the lime juice, tequila, olive oil, garlic salt, cumin, and black pepper in a bowl until well blended. Pour into a large resealable plastic bag; add the shrimp, seal bag and turn to coat evenly. Refrigerate 1 to 4 hours before grilling.

    This is my favorite recipe!!

I use shelled, cooked, medium shrimp. Wash and dry them (still frozen). Melt 1 tsp of butter or margarine (I use country crock light) over medium heat. Put shrimp in butter and sautee for a minute or two on each side. Squeeze lemon over them and let simmer another minute or so. Slide shrimp onto plate and sprinkle with fresh grated parmesan cheese (only need a pinch).

    Voila!! Shrimp Scampi

Another one is to season with Cajun seasoning while sauteeing them. Then serve over brown rice, also flavored with Cajun seasoning along with a green vegetable.

Mrs. Dash & McCormick make some amazing blends that are insanely easy to use. McCormick has an herb one that would be wonderful. I also use it on Salmon and it's fantastic.

I love shrimp and usually just eat them plain, or with a squirt of lemon juice. I've never used any spices or herbs with shrimp...maybe some garlic powder would be good? Or celery salt? If you like a little spice, maybe marinate them in a bit of hot sauce or add a sprinkle of cayenne?
*I've never tried any of this stuff, so don't hold it against me if it's icky!

These are great suggestions! And I have almost everything at home. I think I'll try the garlic powder and lime juice, maybe add a little of the Cajun seasoning mix that I have at home.

Thanks everyone! Now I have several ideas to try with the 2 lbs of shrimp I have at home in the freezer!

BTW, I LOL'd because I googled "spices and herbs for shrimp" and this post came up as the second hit!

All good suggestions. The simpler the better. I like to finish by sprinkiling some green onions and cilantro on top before serving.
