Well, just call me Homer from now on! cartoon57.gif

I have lost exactly 8/10 of a pound in 17 days and have been going ABSOLUTELY NUTS! As my rant posts have attested. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what changed and trying everything!

Then today, it hit me--I was watching the Tour de France and you could see the HRM on one of the guys. I mentioned to my hubby that I'm supposed to get my HRM back from the company tomorrow--I had to send it back for repairs.

That's when I had an epiphany--I sent my HRM back on June 30 and have been relying on mapmyride.com estimates for my calories burnt since that day (gives a closer estimate for bike riding then MFP). I don't trust the estimates, so I always reduce them by about 20% or so.

HOWEVER, when I realized that my weight loss stopped within 2 days of sending back my HRM, I pulled up some reports of exercise times and calories burned--and guess what!

Based upon my past exercise times/calories burned, I'VE BEEN OVERESTIMATING MY EXERCISE CALORIES BY ABOUT AT LEAST 500-700 CALORIES EACH TIME I GO BIKE RIDING! thud.gif

That has to be the issue--I really think it has to be the source of problem.

I just can't believe I didn't think of it before today. th_DOh.gif

So, I'm cutting back my exercise calorie estimate for today by 400 based upon a similar work-out I did 6 weeks ago.

Tomorrow my HRM comes back, and I hope that means my weight loss will be back on track.

One thing for sure I'm going to do when I get my HRM back is to wear it for 24 hours and see just what my daily caloric expenditure is--Banks recommends that all the time and I think I'll finally listen to THE WISE AND WONDERFUL BANKS! notworthy.gif
  • I might try that, would you do that on a rest day?

Yes, Banks stresses not to work out and to wear it for the FULL 24 hours, even while sleeping.

They're Heart Rate Monitors--cost anywhere from $40 to a few hundred for top of the line. I paid $40 for a basic one but it's broke once already. Polar seems to be well thought of.

Just search the discussions for HRM and you'll find tons of info.
