Winning the Battle of the Bulge (Slowly)

I started at 244, and I'm down to 190 lbs. It has taken me a few years to do this, so I'm nothing special (ok, I know all you mothers out there will object to that... let me just say, they'll never write a book about me, and I won't win any prizes on the Biggest Loser). But I am determined to win. There have been a couple of times I've slipped. Last winter I put 20 lbs back on. Then took them completely off. This winter I put on 9 lbs. I consider that a huge win, since winter is so hard for me. I've already taken 3 of them back off, and now I'm on to my original target of 174... I'll push past that to 169 and then hover in that 5 lb range. Is anyone else in the slow burn category of gradual victory?

I would love to be at my target weight before my 40th birthday (July)... Anyone say a prayer for me?

That's awesome! Keep it up. If you lose it fast, you gain it right back. But if you lose it slowly, by then... you've learned a new way of life. The changes are forever, and the weight is gone for good. - Scott

I live in a winter snowy climate to & It is much harder during those months. I turned 40 last July and my metabolism seemed to
slow down. I finally decided I was not going to let age define me or my body. I am taking control. I am really focusing on strength training because I think alot of my problem is muscle loss. I just joined MFP this week and hoping to get the eating part down so I can reach my best potential.

That's awesome! I just joined MFP this week too. I used other methods to get the first 51 off... (I jumped on MFP, and have instantly dropped 3...- with a little work of course) but I think the online journaling of what I eat will help a lot. Plus a little encouragement here and there won't hurt either. I agree that age should not define us. Age is really a function of the mind, isn't it?! We had some 60 degree days here, and I got my bike right out of the attic, and I've put on 51 miles in three rides. Invigorating!

    Good luck with your goals.

Good Luck with your goals too. It sounds like you have already come along way. That is great you put on so many miles with
your bike. I find if you can find something you enjoy and burn calories and the same time it is a "win win". I know after winter
the outside feels so nice. I got outside for 2 walks this week and it was AWESOME. Put on the tunes and just go.

AM trying to really stay focused this time around -- first goal: be able to wear some of the clothes in my closet that haven't been off a hanger in two years...

Good luck in the ongoing see-saw war!!

I've gone up, then down, then up many many times. I re-started in October, and think I'm finally on a roll. Exercising a lot and slowly winning the fight with food (even though I love it so much!) Great job on what you've done so far, and keep up the good work!

To quote somebody, just hit the "quote" button towards the bottom of what they wrote. A code will pop up, and you just write under what they've written. I don't remember quite how to do the ticker, but just do a search for it under the message boards.....
