Nearing my 1st MG and looking for help!

I'm only 1.6 pounds away from my first mini-goal -- that boost I need while I'm still forming good habits. I've decided to reward myself with a new book, but I don't know which one!

Okay, maybe I was a little tricky with the title of this post. Sorry. :blushing:

I'm doing great (surprisingly) at staying motivated. MFP and all of you are helping SO MUCH with that. So I figured why not let you help me with this.

What I'm looking for:
--Something that you've absolutely loved!!
--Something informative/inspirational.
--It doesn't necessarily have to be weight loss/health related. I was a lit major in college. I LOVE fiction, and it can be just as powerful as non-fiction.
--Preferably something available for Kobo (Borders' e-reader). But I can do this research on my own, please don't waste your time.

What I'm not looking for:
--Twilight or the like

Thanks in advance for all the ideas!! (Won't I feel silly if no one responds... )

I absolutely love anything by James Patterson. Most of his books are suspense/mystery. So if you are in to that, definitely give him a try.

I personally love anything by Jodi Picoult, author of My Sister's Keeper. She has a very unique writing / organization style. Always a good read.

    Good luck and congrats!

Agree with abbysum... "The Jester" was my favorite of JP's, but it was more of a dramatic fiction than a thriller.

    If you're looking for inspirational...

    - Who moved my cheese?
    - The Alchemist

    Both great reads :)

Congrats on that first MG! Get it!

Twenties Girl is my favourite book! It's a light fluffy fun read. By Sophie Kinsella (Shopaholic author).

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. It is a great read if you haven't read it already. Even if you saw the movie...the book is 10 times better!!

    Good luck and congrats!!!!!

She's Come Undone- Wally Lamb! It's amazing that is written by a man in the voice of a woman.... I have read it probably 6+ times!
  • Look up Janet Evonovich she has books that are extremely entertaining and funny. They're mysteries sort-of.

One of my all-time favorite books is Margaret Atwood's "The Blind Assassin". It's a novel within a novel, really. Won The Booker Prize.

"The Chess Artist" by J.C. Hallman. Absolutely fantastic writing. Interesting and true narrative that you hardly find in books. Hallman masterfully blends human drama, travel journal, chess history, and anthropology into a wonderfully informative, extremely entertaining, and often moving book.

    Check it out!

Read this years ago. Loved it! He's got several other books as well, and I've heard they're just as good :)

I'd also recommend "The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America." by Erik Larson. "Larson tells the stories of two men: Daniel H. Burnham, the architect responsible for the fair's construction, and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer masquerading as a charming doctor." This book is Non-Fiction, and a great read!

The best fiction I've read in the past year was probably "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.
