Hi. I have been thin most of my life, except for the past 5-7 years. I am in the process of making lifestyle changes to get my life back. I am learning to cook more and eat out less. I am eating more good fats and eating less of the bad ones. More wheat flour items, less white. More herbs, less sodium. Things like that. I have focused on cooking all new entrees or frozen meals where I can easily ascertain the calorie count for the past 2.5 months, I have been thinking about old recipes and wondering if I will still make them when I reach maintenance. Did you keep your old recipes that are not so healthy (high cal, high sodium or high something else not so good)? How often do you eat them? Are they worth it to you? Tonight I am cooking Chinese chicken salad. Terrible, so I am making a modification to improve on it health wise. I hope it is good but part of me wonders if I should just start building recipes that are already more healthy than to try to modify the ones I have. What has been your experience now that you are living the life of health?

I make modifications to ones I used to make.
Such as now I'll add extra vegetables and use brown rice not white to this chicken dish I used to make. I also use just chilli powder instead of a packet powder with loads of sugar and sodium in it!
I'm not a skinny-mini yet but I like to think I'll be there soon!0 -

I use all my old recipes and just tweak them! Instead of salt and pepper, I use herbs and spices. Instead of 4 different cheeses, I use more parmesan and cream cheese and less of the other stuff. Instead of heavy whipping cream, I use milk and butter (saves a liiiittle fat). Instead of ground beef (though I eat it sometimes), I use ground turkey. Instead of regular noodles, I use whole grain or whole wheat.0

I have changed the way I cook. I rarely if ever cook things that have some kind of heavy cream/sauce/cheese based main component to the recipe. I rarely bake anymore (which I do miss, but I'm the one who eats the results!). Recipes that I do make, I make lots of substitutions (like turkey instead of beef), less fat/oil, etc. If I'm making a new recipe, it might be one I pulled off of skinnytaste.com. My family really hasn't noticed too much of a change, and it's working.0

I love cooking! I can cook all day, if I wanted too. I make small changes to my recipes like using olive oil instead of vegetable oil, replacing whole milk with 2%, using partly skimmed cheese, and brown rice instead of white rice. Or if I really don't want to sacrifice the taste, I'll just make the calorie filled recipe :noway: but eat it in a much smaller portion.:blushing:0
